38 studios MMO in development "Copernicus"
38 Studios | World Domination Through Gaming
Apparently its backed financially by Red Sox pitcher and long time table top and MMO gamer, Curt Schilling. Comic book creator Todd MacFarlane and fantasy author R.A. Salvatore are also working with Schilling on the project. I'm thinking this should be interesting enough to keep an eye on it. |
:/ concept looks too damn bright and happy

exactly
|
Is it going to have interesting, innovative gameplay, or is it going to simply mix up classes and abilities slightly while calling it massive change (ie. nearly every MMO in history)?

Curt's an EQ player as I recall, so by "redefining multiplayer gaming" I think they mean coloring rares pink and epics silver.

As far as my thoughts on the concept art being too happy... The city is too perfect, there's no trash no rats no stray dogs or beggars (a warhammer concept for comparison) Same goes for the cave. It just looks too clean and the palette is very much like that of WoW. Hopefully the real thing will get a different feel for now it's more of the same. |
in fact i dont see this game hitting beta before it flops.
|
todd mcfarlane and bob salvatore sounds like a good combo to me.
|
yeah
A huge fan of mmos starting up a company to make one .. First thing he does is hire a lot of concept people and writers... I really don't think it will go well. Sounds like it will have a ridiculously complex concept and never come to reality. |
I used to play EQ with Curt Schilling. He was in my guild, he and I killed Lord Nagafen together. Very nice guy, and he ended up trading a guildmate a signed jersey, ball, and glove, for some in game EQ items. It was funny as hell.
Salvatore was also a very nice guy in EQ, played on his server, had some very nice conversations with him. They have been working on this MMO for quite for some time, or at least designing it, maybe not developing it. I will be very interested to see what McFarlane comes up with for monsters, and Salvatore writes for a store for their universe. Definitely a game to keep an eye on, and it sounds like they are trying to bring back to the "feel" of EQ, like when you first started. They want to bring back that "holy ****... this world is simply amazing" feel. |
1% inspiration. like every other failed project.
