The only reason the system is bad is that there are no checks in the system. Need term limits for Congress. Need to get rid of PACs.

Jason Chaffetz gets it. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/house...ry?id=36222967

After seeing how amazingly ineffective PACs have been this past year, who's still complaining about them?

PACs are a problem, but what exactly would term limits do other than create a stream of corporate-sponsored revolving "Yes" men with no experience or track record to judge their qualifications on?

You want a Senate full of Tea Party panderers on the right and first-term Obamas on the left? The first thing those term-limited politicians will do after being forced out of office will be a move to the lobbyist sector.

KingSobieski 03-26-2016 20:26

For every 1 billion dollars shaved from the budget, congressmen should be legally granted another wife of child bearing age.

Did I say that? No.

Of course they do that now, but with term limits you'd have a lot more of them doing it a lot sooner. A politician knowing they're on their way out would also have more incentive to introduce or pass legislation to benefit their future employers, or increase the value of personal investments.

The best way to persuade someone into doing your bidding is to trick them into thinking it was their idea. Abramoff knows that.

Instead of favors for lunches and golf trips we'd just have payback for support during their campaigns.

So by that argument, a politician who is continually reelected would feel secure and pass legislation that is for the good of their constituents? Of course not...they don't now.

So I would much rather they draw the private sector paycheck, but admittedly that doesn't solve the problem. Maybe it doesn't, but at least we are not rewarding them with long term cushy jobs.

It's only "rewarding" if they get re-elected. You're more comfortable with limiting the freedom of voters to choose their representatives in a vain effort to reduce corruption. If you're happy with the job your Senator has done for 20 years, why is it better for you if he can't be re-elected?

If trump actually gets elected (small chance), both parties will vote him out of office after the first 2 years

-SS- 03-27-2016 09:27

Term limits are a very bad idea. Once they are re-elected for their final term, they have nothing left to lose and will try to collect as much personal wealth as possible before leaving office.

Imo, they need to have skin in the game. You accomplish that with a death penalty. Any politician who loses a recall election by their constituents should be publicly hung at their State capitol. The executive and judicial branches should have the same consequences if convicted through impeachment.

A friend of mine in DC pointed out there is a good reason why they dont prosecute each other; it opens the floodgates. They are truly a protected class and will do whatever it takes to keep it that way. They have no problems lying to you because what are you going to do about it? Just look at the **** they get away with already like the bad checks, not paying taxes, insider trading, etc. -**** the rest of us would be in prison for. Hell, teddy kennedy literally got away with murder.

Btw, you bernie supporters... see the results from yesterday?

Yea. If trump keeps with his "I do whatever I want" style he'll inevitably be perceived to do something illegal

If his overall public support is high then maybe Congress doesn't act but if his support is low and Congress sees an opportunity they'll bring charges against him

He hasn't actually done anything as he's not in office yet. Most of what he's spouting 'sounds' good and like something a LEADER would do, but would he act like that in office? Who knows?

He will most likely be our next president. The polls are going to swing in his favor after the first few debates. Hilary has so many glaringly obvious problems that was easy to attack and she just will not be able to handle debating him because she's so ice cold and uses canned speeches.

When he's elected he will stay 8 years because the policy he's outlined so far has been really smart. Obama got 8 years and fumbled on so many things, he's so lame and even Dems did not really like him when they reelected him, they just thought McCain was scarier. You think Trump can't do better? MAGA!

He's more teflon than anyone. Doing something perceived to be illegal will not slow him down GWB did so much shady **** and he never got impeached and his approval ratings were bad and dems hated him. Trump attracts so many independents his presidency will not really polarizing party lines.

He's polarizing from young college socialists, but in the grand scheme of things he's much less polarizing than GWB or Obama, and the independents behind him right now is proof of that.

JoMo 03-27-2016 17:18

I don't know if he'll face Hillary. Sanders may keep on winning after the bird incident.

EDIT: Oh wait, are there any more states with small minority groups? He wins those.

Reggs 03-27-2016 17:29

When Hilary is the frontrunner democrats are going to be feeling every bit as lame and weak as when John Kerry was running, who I voted for btw, but damn that was the worst choice ever.

First Trump Vs. Hillary debate will be magical. I'm going to find a viewing party to go to, or stay in and order pizza and drink wine. It will be amazing.

Fool 03-27-2016 18:05

Hillary has been successful largely because she knew she had it in the bag and has basically avoided the spotlight for as long as possible. She's unlikable and everyone knows it. The longer she talks, the more people dislike her. On a national stage, in the spotlight, where she'll actually have to respond to a media savvy person like Trump, she's going to fold hard. If she tries to lash back, it will only make her even more unlikable.

Reggs 03-27-2016 18:23

That's true, she'd just cold. She strikes me as the type of woman who hates children.

Even if she was charming, Trump is just too smart for her. His idea of forcing Saudi Arabia to fight ISIS by boycotting their oil is pure genius. We buy such a small % from them and our infrastructure is so great it would not effect our prices THAT much and it would instantly create a ton of stateside jobs that have been lost because the oil industry has been getting the **** kicked out of them by low prices, and it would hold us off longer from putting American boots on the ground, make them do it.

Pure genius all around. No one else has the intelligence to think like that, or the balls to actually do it. Name one other politician who would embarrass Saudi Arabia. Trumps plans are solid.
