How do you test someone for being high at work?

I was a mechanic for ten years and was high/drunk the entire time and performed spectacular work and paid my way through college making $20/hr.

If someone can perform the work in whichever state of mind they choose, whats the big deal? I could get a 40oz on lunch and smoke a fat bowl and roll into work and bang out a four wheel brake job on a minivan with four baby seats in the back. Never crossed my mind i was doing dangerous or irresponsible work, i could screw something up being sober too.

Tons of retarded mechanics that are totally inept. Id rather have the guy that does top notch work all the time even if he comes in smelling like a brewery. Being inebriated has nothing to do with safety - personal responsibility and aptitude does.

According to -SS-, they'll be the one slapping their hand on their chest and drooling everywhere.

Any textile business that has something that will be "replaced" by help would be the first business to capitalise on it. It would actually be good them because it would most likely lead to vertical integration. So much cotton comes from overseas. If we could grow hemp here, textile companies would love it and get into the farming business.

This is just hot air. Of course you can't find any evidence that textile companies are trying to keep hemp illegal.

I don't think you understand capital investment. The established companies don't want to invest in new machinery, new supply chains, etc. For them, hemp creates new costs, uncertainty and opens the door for new competition. Hemp textiles would replace cotton textiles, not create a new market for them. It is worth it for them to spend some money to oppose it.

Here's my take:

It's not just pot. Once you start legalizing drugs, you are on a slippery slope. Every business I am aware of has an obligation to ensure that its employees perform their jobs efficiently, safely and in a professional business-like manner.

The part I wrestle with is personal Liberties and Rights versus applying standards that infringe on those liberties and rights. But where do those liberties and freedoms end when they infringe on any private business or gvt service and conflicts with multiple laws? Let's say all drugs are legalized at the federal, but not State level. If a company has a 'zero tolerance' policy, but it's allowed legally and the employee has it in their system from a drug test, then what?

Here, read this: https://www.osha.gov/as/opa/worker/e...nsibility.html

Now read this: https://www.shrm.org/LegalIssues/Sta...-policies.aspx

It's more complex than "just treat it like alcohol" -especially when you have ADA laws for posters like flipp and herpender. That's a simple statement for simple people.

Been plumbing for over a decade. There is a saying that "it's the other guy that will get you hurt" on the job site. That saying is so very true and I have seen guys get ****ed up because their workers were ****ed up on the job.

I have no prob with you getting **** faced at home and staying there till sober. If I catch you on the site high, drunk, or under the influence in any capacity I will report your stupid ass to the site admin. If the site admin wont send you home then I will rat you out to the police. If you want to play stay home. If you want to work then lets see to it.

BTW OSHA is a good thing. We never had a problem when OSHA would come on site because we always worked by the numbers anyway. Unlike the bozos in the vid below.

responsible people will be responsible. assholes will be assholes. let the states choose.

Goshin 04-30-2016 13:54

If you're on drugs at work, you're fired and held legally responsible for bad ****

Who cares what someone does on their off hours

this guy wonders why he can't keep a job lol

id like to know what fantasy land you guys live in where every single service worker isnt harboring some kind of substance dependency.

plumbers, painters, mechanics, framers, you name it, the guys in the trenches making this country function with their bare bloody knuckles are the real victims of drug place policies - you get injured at work - high or not - you'll get piss tested and fail and be fired - even for smoking weed only during off work hours.

now imagine an office worker or IT guy sitting in a little cubicle nipping on an airplane bottle and punching away at a keyboard, OW CARPAL TUNNEL, WORKER'S COMP, get the **** outta here.

the only people this zero tolerance drug policy hurts is people with actual manly jobs that no matter what, pose some sort of health hazard.

insurance companies know that with this zero tolerance none sense they can weasel out of worker comp claims because most of the people requiring it are the working class blue collar joes doing whatever it takes to make it through the day.

without the zero tolerance policy, then they would absolutely be paying much much more in insurance claims.

just one more tool for those rat nosed **** bastards to bend the working man over with.

get as smashed blacked out wasted as you like during your free time and everything is just a-OK peachy.

now, if you're showing up to work riding on the horse and you keep nodding out and you can't perform your job - then sure, go ahead and fire the worthless dead weight.

if you're a painter you could be filled to the gills with vodka and no one would know the difference.

if you're a framer, you're just measuring, cutting, nailing - not much thought.

if you're good at your job, it doesn't matter what state of mind you're in. I've done high voltage electric lines, concrete, timber, heavy diesel repair, whatever the hell, i don't give a ****, but i'm baked out of my mind and no one complains cause i'm a master of my craft and i deliver 100% satisfaction 100% of the time.

To tehvul - I bet everyone despises you on the 'job site'. No one likes a crying nancy that's stabbing people in the back that are working their asses off for <40k a year. I would so involve you with a work related accident so fast it'd rip you in half. Ooops, better test his piss, maybe the weed made him fall into that wood chipper.......hmmmmm.....

Framing is easy. Especially when sober and doesn't take much thought.

Your state of mind matters a great deal. Focused thought is focused action. Being under the influence out on the job shows that you are irresponsible, and shows you do not take the safety of yourself or of others serious. Your work will be half assed and the customer will have been cheated. Honest work for honest pay much?

"I don't give a ****"

Big part of your problem right there kiddo. I'd work on that if I were you.

New guys sometimes have a problem with me. Until the guys who know me clue them in that my goal is to get the job done right, done on time, and getting all of us home in one piece at night. Besides I do not require their admiration. Just their obedience. Do your job you will be rewarded with knowledge, experience, and pay. Don't do your job you won't have a job.

Nice hurting me fantasy you got going on there. Too bad your heart lacks the convictions of your mouth. Similar how you lack the will power required to not go to work wasted.

Loser.

the white privileged globalist racists (epidemic, eggi, coombz, loucypher) hate anyone that does manual labor, so this won't resonate well with them. they want drug legalization for themselves and to ease their guilt over black people in prison.

Like that house/apt you live in?
Thank a framer.

Like having water appear out of the faucet?
Thank a plumber.

Like having lights?
Thank an electrician.

Like western civilization being systematically destroyed?
Thank a liberal.

To be fair it's not all that hard to out smart those rioting **** heads. The gif you posted proves it. :sunny:

They are rioting out front sir. What should we do?

That's unfortunate. We'll just go in the back.

Copy that.

JuggerNaught 04-30-2016 16:09

It really wouldn't surprise me to see a legit assasination attempt on Trump. It's only a matter of time before these riots outside start moving more inside, or a stinky 20something takes a shot at the Donald in some way.
