While some of the general principles in OP are sound, that graph is bull****. It suggests at age 72 your calorie intake should be a quarter of what it is in your twenties. So that would be well under 1000 calories a day, impossible to survive on that for more than a couple of weeks.

In my opinion, and experience, as a 49 year old mesomorph / endomorph, is that as you get older, the key to weight loss/ maintenance becomes less about diet and more about exercise to keep the metabolism stimulated. Although obviously still a balance of both is needed.

The graph is merely an estimation, as I said, empirical not absolute.

What if you only live to 72? You might be lying in bed 24/7 and sleeping 20 hours a day. My mother is 83 and probably taking in only 400 calories a day. The point is, you WILL burn fewer calories in a curve similar to the graph over time.

Another factor is genetics. My Dad was thin Scotsman and my Mom was rotund WOP. My brother, sister and I took after my Mom and another brother and two sisters took after my Dad.

Anyway, I only need to lose another inch in the waist to be where I want.

How do you calculate body fat%?

look in the mirror, and if you can't see your abs, you're too fat

"Yes, metabolic rate (the amount of calories burnt a day) does vary between people. Most of the time, it isn't that much of a difference and isn't causative of obesity (where caloric intake and exercise are better predictors), but differences between people do tend to exist.

Exercise will induce increases in metabolic rate in all persons by the inherent nature of physical movement. There is a lower degree of variance for basic, aerobic movements like walking or jogging. The low variance may not hold for high-intensity exercises.

Moderately active living may be sufficient to negate the inherent differences in metabolism for a good deal of persons not on the extremes of the metabolic bell curve (so, those that are unlikely to be diagnosed with hypothyroidism; a low metabolic rate)."

end the metabolism myth. it's not the difference between fat/skinny ppl.

what research dictates that our ancestors stored alot of fat?

eat like a ****ing carnivore. we are omnivores for a reason, we ate mainly as carnivores, but our ability to subsist on herbivore food helped at times.

ever see a fat lion? a fat wolf?

what do they eat mainly? Protein and animal FAT, with minimal carb intake usually from the left overs in their stomach of their last kill

ketones are like 10 times more energy efficient or some **** then carbs. or your muscles want them that much, regardless, its what we SHOULD eat.

a lot of weird things are said here, like comparing humans to lions and wolves

i'm not convinced that ketosis is "the way", especially for bodybuilders or strength/power athletes

but i am not an expert in the field, either

i definitely agree that the typical american diet has too many carbs in it

darkpiece 12-11-2014 14:54

2 many g00d f00d have carb ukno

: )

hyung 12-13-2014 00:00

i went for ketosis once

i didnt really get results and i was miserable

ive gotten better results just exercising often and cutting back calories
