That***8217;s what happened in EVE Online the other day, developer CCP games confirms. EVE is one of the longest running and most involved MMOs on the market, where players buy, pilot and fight with starships in a massive, persistent world marked by large scale conflict between groups of players. It***8217;s been running more than a decade. In-currency can be roughly equated to real-life currency through an exchange mechanism called PLEX, and some items can get very pricey. It doesn***8217;t quite get up to the most expensive item ever sold in a video game ***8212; one player paid about $100,000 for a space station in Entropia universe in 2010 ***8211; but it makes cows in Farmville look sheepish. The developer famously released a $60 monocle a few years ago.

The ship in question was a ***8220;Revenant Super Carrier,***8221; one of the rarest ships in the game, and, up until recently, never destroyed. The fight itself was a massive battle marked by intrigue on Shakesperean level ***8212; a well-respected player in one group turned traitor against his allies and set a trap that led the ultra-valuable ship to where it would be eventually destroyed.
