[got haggis] Star wars battlefront 2 micro transactions backfire

TOO LONG DIDN'T READ: EA tried to kick out a p2w battlefield game and got called out by reddit/the internet. Some highlights of this fedora take down are the metacritic score of 0.8/100, the most down voted comment in the history of reddit posted by a EA PR guy and EA completely backpeddling upon their initial p2w structure and temporarily removing it from the game.

At this point, the shenanigans have gone viral and reached various news media outlets going so far as to visibly affect EA's stock.

Anyone else happy to see EA getting butt****ed by angry nerd virgins?

Care factor 0

There's too many potatoes out there to financially support EA, unfortunately. Nobody is mentioning the fact the loot crate p2w **** was in every other EA title this year.

I think the biggest part of this whole mess is that regulatory agencies are re-evaluating the definition of gambling in regards to loot crates. If the definition turns out to extend to loot crates and is adopted by pegi and the esrb, then that could be a big problem for a company like EA who licenses the rights of SW franchise from Disney - a company that would not be on board with adult-rated games.

I just like that the the idea of speaking with your wallet in the gaming industry has finally come to fruition. Since i'm a care factor 1 on this subject and I know all the details and don't support EA and make but a tiny impact on their revenue. Now that it has gained public attention, every mom and pop will think twice about letting their children "gamble" on loot boxes.

Dangerdoggie 11-17-2017 21:07

people on reddit are breaking their arm patting themselves on the back over this.

Didn't have much to do with their temper tantrum, it was Disney flipping their **** about the negative press of fans being angry towards all things Star Wars, including their giant tent pole movie coming out next month.

game will still sell a bazillion copies.

Zanthious 11-17-2017 21:17

everyone will forget this by christmas when they sell 5 million copies of the game.

"Gamers'R'Dumb"

This from the same company that said:

Quote:

"When you are six hours into playing Battlefield and you run out of ammo in your clip, and we ask you for a dollar to reload, you're really not very price sensitive at that point in time."

"A consumer gets engaged in a property, they might spend 10,20,30,50 hours on the game and then when they're deep into the game they're well invested in in. We're not gouging, but we're charging and at that point in time the commitment can be pretty high."

"But it is a great model and I think it represents a substantially better future for the industry."

Pretty sure he now is working at Unity game engine company now, but yes eventually we'll get there with buying virtual ammo for virtual guns.

THere's no way that the kikes who run Disney and EA would ever allow the gambling label.

Lord Elessar 11-18-2017 09:43

The US consumer doesn't care enough to boycott. Disney could sell wookie turds if they put chewie on the label. The government won't regulate as they are in the pocket of big business (see net neutrality) and almost no one in congress understands the Internets.

Oddly, the Chinese may be the ones that save gaming. They are already starting to push back on loot crates.

Osiris 11-18-2017 12:30

Temporary removed as in theyre going to reintroduce them at a later point. Sounds legit

And some countries in the EU, they get a twitch in their pants whenever they see an opportunity to make some money off of social injustice.

'Battlefront II' under investigation in Belgium over loot crates
