HTC Vive pre-orders - Feb 29th

I still can't get around the cord issue when walking around. you're definitely going to step on it or trip over it. I mean maybe they'll make a wall or ceiling mounted arm of some sort for it? But as is it looks like a major issue.

Most people just setup a small space to move around in and it looks like games are designed with some sort of teleportation for locomotion, you're more likely to throw a controller into a wall or other person.

yeah utilizes the front facing camera for this. curious to see how well its implemented.

this implementation doesnt look that great, but i think its just someones test

skip to 4:07 for the outline and then 6:45 for the actual camera use

I've seen the wall perimeter that's projected when you get near the out of bounds area designated by the lighthouse sensors but not any kind of ghosting of other objects in the VR space.

Fat boy gamers like in that video moving around would be a good thing, if they don't stroke out like he almost did from too much physical exertion.

Awesome - you can spend hundreds just to be able to look at your bedroom floor - amazingly you can also see a cable

cool

I want to see some real useful shit like dragon porn

Yes... why waste hard earned money on professionally developed software to power your fantasy when the HTC Vive can turn your boring old real life into a video game!

Order now. Only 3 easy payments of 199.99 and one really complicated payment of 199.99.

this shit

I get the feeling HTC was getting to this sort of thing with their "game changer" crap before launch and the inclusion of the front camera but had to pull the trigger and release with the Oculus. This thing is a $100 add-on that can basically stick a pair of IR cameras to the front of your headset and then a bunch of software that happily tracks your hands.

If this sort of thing can be integrated into the next gen of headsets, I might need to upgrade sooner than I'd have hoped ;)
