I wouldn't call it out of ideas. I'd call it not willing to spend gobs of money on something unproven.

the gun picture is dumb, 2 of the games are based in reality and use a real gun.

for killzone it shows a lack of imagination though

back in the late 90's, developers with no money at all made the most popular games there were. tribes, quake, starcraft, entire genres... i chalk it up to general American laziness and stupidity that they shafted a perfectly good industry 10 years ago.
 
i dont think tribes was a smash hit from a commercial standpoint

i know i warezed mine and didn't really buy a copy til after Dynamix went out of business

and even then i got it out of the bargain bin
 
i forget which, but the original tribes was pirated 200,000 or 500,000 times. then investors took control and thought they could get more and we know how that went

but games like wow have done pretty well. At the same time if you pull out a demo disc from PC gamer 15 years ago, you'll get 30 demos, all of them completely different and original.
