You go to war against the country that these groups operate from. Harbouring these groups is a crime, they know these terrorists groups are there. It is time to strike back. If these countries stop supporting these groups , or even just stop turning a blind eye, it will make it alot harder for them to exist.

Germany has now declared "absolute solidarity" with the US. I assume that is a semi-political way of saying if we go to war, expect Germany to be in it.

Wrong, they use them to defend themselves. If it weren't for Americas support Isreal would be over-run by it's hostile neighbors. The Palestinians are the aggressive assholes, not the isrealies.

how do you know? you live there? or just catch it on CNN like everyone else?

I work on a military base in Iowa. Strange as it sounds, security is higher here than usual also. They are checking everybody who enters or leaves.

One of the guys here at the office just came back from lunch and said that there are police stretched for miles around the Barksdale gates and that nobody can get anywhere close to the base. Not even within site of a gate.
