LONDON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden warned three weeks ago that he and his followers would carry out an unprecedented attack on U.S. interests for its support of Israel, an Arab journalist with access to him said on Tuesday.
Abdel-Bari Atwan, editor of the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper said Islamic fundamentalists led by bin Laden was "almost certainly" behind the attack of the World Trade Center in New York.
"It is most likely the work of Islamic fundamentalists. Osama bin Laden warned three weeks ago that he would attack American interests in an unprecedented attack, a very big one," Atwan told Reuters.
"Personally we received information that he planned very, very big attacks against American interests. We received several warnings like this. We did not take it so seriously, preferring to see what would happen before reporting it."
Atwan has interviewed bin Laden and maintains close contacts with his followers.
Two planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center as office workers began work on Tuesday morning, causing the south tower to collapse, eyewitnesses said. In Washington, another plane crashed next to the Pentagon, a U.S. official said. Eyewitnesses said the building was being evacuated. The White House and State Department were also evacuated.
A Palestinian group claimed responsibility, Abu Dhabi television said. President George W. Bush called it an "apparent terrorist attack," and pledged the U.S. government would "hunt down" those responsible.

Exactly. Once we figure out the people/nations responsible, we will retaliate more than likely with far more overbearing force, and disassemble that country piece by piece, by god's grace we will repay every single bit of damage they have done to us, with over triple the payback. Bin Laden foretold this 2 weeks ago when he said there was to be an unprecedented attack on americans. Unfortunate the anti-terrorist division wasn't able to thwart this.

I heard up to the plane that crashed into the pentagon, then ran to class... just found out that the towers actually collapsed, i cannot fucking believe it... I'm from there but out here in PSU now. My mother worked in tower 2, floor 87, up to 6 months ago till she was moved uptown... She was on a bus passing right next to the tower as the first plane hit... I cannot imagine the chaos in the city, and seeing the city without them... very sad day for NY and the world.

I can't belive that both towers collapsed.

I have a few questions, with all the technology and super power that America supposedly has, how can it let not one but two planes 20 min apart fly so close to those buildings and let them collide. I mean, I would expect them to gun not the first(I can understand the 1st.) but the second one down? Seams fucked up to me.

its not like you have anti-aircraft cannons in the middle of downtown new york, i guess it's also unreasonable for them to be able to scramble fightercraft that quick

You're right. We should have just started blasting down all passenger jets that dared to fly over New York City, on the speculation that the first crash was a deliberate act and not an accident. :huh:

Some of the larger airports are having a plane land every 60 seconds. When you are talking about how close the major cities are, you are dealing with hundreds of planes in the air.
