Two point three pounds of ****.
Built in distortion, phasing et cetera.
And they stole the Jags shape in the process.
The Gibson site is deluged with negative ****. And Henry had the nerve to say, "...if you don't like it, you are a Luddite."
Good thing it is a privately held company.
Oh yeah...$3,500, too.
Tantric Rex 10-28-2010, 09:45 PM Watched the press confress. That guy running gibson sucks at public speaking and he acts like he thinks hes Steve Jobs.
Terrible guitar.
old_skul 10-29-2010, 12:52 PM I'm glad to see Gibson is doing something a little different.
Stilgar 10-29-2010, 01:17 PM Please tell me my sarcasm meter is teh suck.
That thing is an abomination.
2.3 pounds of ASH?
old_skul 10-29-2010, 07:48 PM Gibson has actually done some awesome stuff lately, with the Robot guitars, the MAGIC system (too little, way, way, way too late), the Dusk Tiger, and now this. What they really need to do is branch into low-cost guitars, made in USA, that actually look, sound and play well. The Melody Maker ain't gonna cut it.
You can't tell me this is ugly.

Okay, you can tell me it's ugly. But at least it's something new.
old_skul 10-30-2010, 10:13 AM Oh, and full disclosure: I own one of these.

woodsof 11-01-2010, 03:14 AM I like guitar music and write my own song
Stilgar 11-01-2010, 10:30 AM Robots were a failure - they sold for half price.
And yeah, the dusk tiger is fugly.
I would sell it if it was given to me.
old_skul 11-01-2010, 12:50 PM Can you imagine how much it'll be worth in 30 years, though?
I would love a Robot Studio.
Stilgar 11-01-2010, 04:58 PM Can you imagine how much it'll be worth in 30 years, though?
I would love a Robot Studio.
Less than a run of the mill R0, R9, R8 et cetera.
Why would you buy robot?
old_skul 11-01-2010, 08:11 PM Well, for one, they'll be collectible, and also, it's always fun to have more toys. I would of course buy a used one at the bottom dollar. I've done that with many of my guitars, all of which have become more desirable over time. Some oddballs I have:
- 1981 Les Paul Custom Silverburst - these WERE oddballs at the time. No one would buy them because they were so Vegas/flashy! Now look at 'em, they go for $3K+ to collectors. It sounds like a Les Paul - dark and powerful.
- 1983 Stratocaster Elite - produced at the darkest of times at Fender, this was the top of the line. It had a weird ass vibrola system, a dummy pickup to "reduce" hum (not so effective), a pushbutton pickup selector, and an onboard preamp. I got mine for around $700, and you can't get one for less than $1500 now. It sounds....amazing. It's a little hard to play.
- 1995(?) Ibanez Talman - It's made of sawdust and glue. It has lipstick pickups. It has a photo-birdseye neck. I paid $300 for it in 1998 and it's worth $500 now. It sounds like a dark Strat, and plays great, like any Ibanez.
- 1973 Les Paul Recording Model. No one bought these. It was designed by Les Paul himself, complete with unique switching system and single-coil(!) pickups. It sounds so sweet, I get cavities playing it. It has a wonderful distorted sound you can't find anywhere else. You can't get one for less than 3 large - and I got mine for $550. There's one on Ebay right now for $10KAU....
So yeah. I'll get a Robot eventually, just 'cause I'm a dork like that. I'll enjoy it, too.
Bezel 11-05-2010, 07:10 PM That's one ugly mofo. I like the standard Firebirds though.
