Vintage 10-21-2009, 06:49 AM So after making that cardio thread i remembered hearing about how jumping rope is a REALLY good HIIT. do any of you jump rope as your cardio? opinons? etc. dankerz OtisPAB 10-21-2009, 03:57 PM can't speak from experience but I have heard this as well. I've been meaning to buy one. Recommendations? Highlife 10-21-2009, 05:33 PM Jump Ropes, Buddy Lee's Jump Rope Training. (http://estore.websitepros.com/1220297/Categories.bok?category=J ump+Ropes+Only) Buddy Lee makes very light speed ropes, but I would only purchase the Rope Master Jump Rope and the Aero Speed Jump Rope. Bomba 10-21-2009, 07:43 PM Ive been Jumping rope for a few years. i use the buddy lee aero speed. my workout generally is Treadmill walk at 4.5 for one min, jog at 7.0 the next two min. then balls out on the jump rope for 1min. rinse and repeat for 30min. works for me Soup 10-22-2009, 04:01 PM for HIIT lately I've been riding my bike on my off days (from riding with the bike club) for like 50 minutes just going balls out for 2-3 minutes and then pedal slowly for 2-3. I find a good way to keep motivated is to ride a certain loop in my area with a lot of stop signs and a 35mph zone, pick a car and try to keep up with them. Defaced 10-22-2009, 11:39 PM I skip for virtually all my warm-ups. I'm not even afraid to call it skipping. I enjoy it mostly because it actually involves a skill that I can improve. Unlike running/rowing/whatever. I also get my heart rate up faster, and it involves some sport-specific training. (for muay thai) Glare 10-23-2009, 07:46 AM the trainers in my gym use skipping as a warm up a lot of their clients are college athletes so take that as you will i dont think skipping or jumping rope will replace running, biking, or swimming though sarbuze 10-24-2009, 05:20 PM Double-Unders. Clear the rope twice for each jump. I do these frequently. A typical workout for me: Jump Rope: 5 minute round warmup 2 minute round Double Unders 2 minute round single jumps 1:30 double under 1:30 single 1:00 double under 1:00 single :30 double under :30 single finish with: 5:00 minute round (last 30 seconds double under) 1 min break 4 minute round (last 30 seconds double under) 1 min break 3 minute round (last 30 seconds double under) 1 min break 2 minute round (last 30 seconds double under) 1 min break 1 minute round (last 30 seconds double under) Light jumping for 1-2 minute cool down Great workout. Vintage 10-24-2009, 08:57 PM so during one jump you pass the rope under you twice? Vintage 10-24-2009, 08:58 PM and im assuming warm up and single jumps are the same? blazindave 10-24-2009, 10:39 PM I do jump rope. At my boxing gym, there's a buzzer that buzzes every 2.5 minutes. Then it buzzes again in 30 seconds. Then after a 15 second break the 3 minute loop starts again. I do first minute 1 leg. Second minute the other leg. The last 30 seconds i do criss cross. Then the last 30 seconds i do double unders mixed with criss cross. I'll get a video to show you. sarbuze 10-25-2009, 11:11 AM Warmup: single jumps at a comfortable pace Double: Yes, per each jump the rope clears twice. Vintage 10-25-2009, 07:07 PM thanks i want to do cardio but i hate running and the elptical is getting boring. i want some good HIIT and this looks like it's for me. i've been jumping rope this last week and its a sick workout but i didn't know any programs so thanks. kicker 10-28-2009, 12:20 AM i also use Buddy Lee's Aero Speed rope. It's a great rope... I don't do any particular jump programs with it. I generally do a 5 minute warmup in which i keep a pretty fast pace. Then i'll jump for 1 minute in between sets of lifting. I throw in doubles and crossovers randomly. keeps the heart rate wayyyy up. here's some buddy lee jumping goodness for your viewing pelasure. hXovowbMsLE Lord Elessar 10-31-2009, 12:25 AM I do intervals on a jump rope once a week. It's pretty nice. I use a $7 weighted rope from walmart. pretty good ending to a solid workout. Great for hand/eye coordination too if you use a mirror as you can see your feet and arms working together. Vintage 11-07-2009, 01:28 AM double unders are fucking impossible i can only do 3 or 4 at a time. ajs123 11-07-2009, 09:26 PM I jump rope daily - best cardio ever and I am in terrific shape. lonewolf63afo 11-08-2009, 10:00 PM if you are a golfer, i believe jumping rope will help your golf swing's tempo. ozziememz 11-10-2009, 06:33 AM best cardio i do, it takes a while to get into it(and good at it) its worth it though Highlife 11-10-2009, 09:27 AM I found that buddy lee ropes have a tendency of breaking within 3 months after doing a little more research. Recently I just purchased a Ultra Speed Cable Jump Rope (http://www.buyjumpropes.net/Ultra_Speed_Cable_Jump_Ro pes_p/006ultraspeedcablejump%20 rop.htm) and have had no issues. The rope is made of a very thin cable and is extremely light. I found that I had to use less wrist effort with this rope when compared to the buddy lee ropes my gym has. | ||
