Chest exercises (with a thumb injury)?

Right now I have a pretty severely jammed thumb . God, that sounds lame. Anyway, can anyone recommend some chest exercises that would help me maintain my current level of strength? I cannot hold a bar so all types of bench press exercises are out. I can hold dumbbells only with a forward facing grip.

This week I did:
3 sets flat pushup (3 x 60)
3 sets incline pushup (3 x 60)
3 sets pushups with one hand on small medicine ball and one hand on floor (3 x 20)
3 sets machine flys (3 x 6)

Bench presses are a staple of my gym diet so I'm at a loss here. The docs say it will take at least a month to recover.

Can you do dips?

You know I probably could. That's a good idea, thanks Rayn.

That reminds me I could probably try dumbbell pullovers as well since I can use both hands to support the single dumbbell. I'm heading to the gym in a couple hours so I'll see how that goes.

Various types of pushups on your knuckles? (Like, your hand is clenched in a fist)

Fly's (sp) should be doable, if you're careful.

Work out just one pec?

Do you grasp the bar when you bench? Try having your thumb outside with your fingers?

Morning all,

Advisory, yep flys worked! I went pretty heavy with cable flys and then did incline dumbbell flys with a lower weight. Followed by various types of pushup and dips.

I finished with a dumbbell pullovers/single dumbbell press. It worked out better than I expected. My bench press goals for the next few months are shot but at least I'll be getting a good workout.

Defaced: Yes I usually grasp the bar. I've never been comfortable benching with my thumb outside. It just looks like a disaster waiting to happen. Also not having a spotter makes me hesitant to try it with any weight and an injured thumb. I suppose I could test out my spanish skills and ask a trainer.

Anyway, thanks all. Good suggestions.

Well, I'm benching less weight, with safeties, and I've never dropped it.
Maybe I'm gambling, but I'll stick with it.

Dunno.

You can still drop the bar with a thumbs wrapped around the bar grip - but you'll have your arms under it still so you can at least take off some of the weight.

Using a thumbless grip is definitely a gamble. My hands sweat like crazy - so I'd never even think about it.

I'm not even going to watch those bench press vids. I decided not to risk it and hold off on benching until the thumb is good to go again.

I have never and will never watch a bench press video accident like that. The weird thing is, ive seen chech and the new video of the urkranians and they dont even phase me. But the thumbless grip is the best way to really fuck yourself up.
