okay im closer to hit cap after gemming for it.. ive changed my specs around to arcane and fire both PVE specs.. gonna go test it out on a dummy now..
fire im up to 3300 constant 4200 burst non raid buffed
arcane is 2400. 2800 burst :/ wtf
Yes, Arcane underperforms on the dummy every time.
You're losing damage with all that resilience gear. Drop it ASAP.
I dunno who picked that necklace from the badge vendor, but that is NOT a DPS caster neck.
You should be able to get a level 80 wand fairly easily...

yah im working on getting rid of the PVP gear atm
its either that neck or some PVP necklace
edit.. i just put in a ticket saying i purchased the wrong one with my emblems.. see if i can get a refund or get the evokers charm

Your DPS will scale with buffs (especially once Focus Magic starts firing) but you won't ever fully catch up to Fire Mages on a single target. Arcane hasn't scaled as well as Fire has this expansion. We had a few months of glory, but that's over and done with.
One area you can excel is in AoE... if you're willing to play chicken with your Arcane Explosions. :D
Stick with Fire if your only goal is to top meters on boss fights.

Also, if you're going to be in that gear for a while, get an enchant on that cloak (Springy Arachnoweave isn't a bad option) and you may want to look at Nitro Boosts for the passive crit bonus, since you're an Engineer.

Strive for 17% with talents. There's some wiggle room but you'll derive most of your output from being hit capped. Nothing hurts your DPS worse than a complete miss.

wtf are you talking about Data? Arcane has been the best spec since the last mini patch. 57/3/11 is far and away the top spec and it has become just as mindless as fire. The mana issues are virtually gone and if you can manage some great burst CD's you're golden.
Virto, your way under hit cacme for the FB/TTW build. With a properly specced boomkin or spriest youre about 115 behind the hit cap. Hit point for point to hit cap is the single best DPS increase you will see in your character. You need 368 hit (14%) to cap or 446 (17%) without a boomkin or spriest.
Arcane is very gear friendly because it needs low amounts of hit and provides you some great burst. Hit rating with a boomkin or spriest is 209 in Arcane. 3% from a precision, 3% from arcane focus and then their buff. Your arcane spec for the most part is satisfactory but for harder TOC heroic encounters it could be tweaked.
Rotation for arcane: Arcane Blast x4, on a missle barrage proc, pop off arcane missles. If you're not confident in your ability to manage your mana, use arcane missles regardless if you proc missle barrage on your 4th AB stack.
Don't listen to Data. He's a nice guy but his mage advice is sub-par.

You really need to get rid of that PVP gear so you can gain hit on your gear and not have to gem for it.
With the epic gems the sp+haste gems (Reckless ametrine) are generally the better choice for both FB/TTW and Arcane yellow sockets. IN GENERAL (E.G. NOT IN ALL CASES), gem for the socket bonus in most of the newer PVE gear. Most the socket bonuses are +5sp and the sp+hate+socket bonus are better than straight sp. Red sockets, Runed Cardinal Rubys. Blue Purified dreadstones.
Your Arcane glyphs are fine and so are your fire glyphs. Get exalted with sons of hodir. The PVP shoulder enchant screams nub.
umm arcane is the besst hands down. its beyond op.

:lol: fire is soooo much harder right? Keep LB up and spam FB or FFB till you proc a Pyroblast. Use combustion in burn situation.
Arcane: Spam AB and use AM when you proc a Missle Barrage. Evocate, use mana gems diligently and time your CD's (I have 5 CD's).
They are both "mindnumbingly simple". Arcane is slightly more difficult, a bit more mana intensive with more CD's to work in.
Mage is hard.
