I have very little free time and I find I rely on a small number of dishes that are relatively easy to make. Now I know why moms cook stuff like this. For me, I am eating the following multiple times a month:

Baked Chicken Parm
Turkey Tacos
Lemon Shrimp w/ Pasta

and then I experiment with other things. Trying to get my crockpot into the mix but everything I cook in it has a weird flavor to it even after multiple cleanings.

What are staple dishes of your home cooking?

ground round + corn tortillas (can you call that a taco?)
chicken+wild rice
turkey breast+rice (usually white)
steak+noodles

as you can see i usually rely on a standard meat dish + carb heavy side

its not gourmet but it suits my activity level pretty well i guess

when you guys say tacos do you use premade shells like taco bell, or raw corn shells, or fry them crunchy?
I fry mine. I hate the taco bell ones, only time I eat the raw ones is with fish tacos from baja fresh or the like

i don't fry them, I use soft whole wheat. I try to avoid fried stuff and thus all badmofo threads.

Steak
Chicken Saute's
Steak Saute's
Grilled/Broiled Chicken

Those are the normal things and they tend to get modified in whatever mood I feel like i.e. saute's go into fajita's, stirfrys, pan sauces. Grilled/broiled stuff tends to get eaten as cooked but can also be cut for other things.

These tend to be my master recipes.

i dont fry the shells, i heat them up in the oven

frying the shells sounds kinda bad for a "staple" dish

- Curried chicken with Apple and raisins.
- Orange beef stir fry with veggies
- Russian Chicken (crock pot recipe - easy and tasty)
- Steak and Salad
- Pork tenderloin stuffed with garlic and peppers.

I make these all at least once per month, often more than once. All are super easy prep, pretty healthy and tasty as hell.

She doesn't eat beef so I make it rarely (LOL) and just for me.

- Meatloaf (turkey + italian sausage), flavored with garlic, cayenne, thyme and cumin.
- Pulled pork
- Fish different ways w/rice (usually wild salmon or tilapia, thanks costco).
- Pork chops, country ribs, etc. different ways. Sometimes stuffed, asian, bbq, etc.
- Pasta w/pesto. For stuffed pastas I usually make tomato cream sauce. Every once in a while I'll do carbonara w/pancetta if I have it and we're up for something that heavy.
- Roast chicken.
- Turkey tacos rock. Also turkey enchiladas.

Turkey Chili (I make it super hot)
Tilapia with onions & peppers, baked
Roast in the crockpot (fuck yeah)
Chicken fried rice

I would call those staples since I cook them all more than 2x a month.

I like the idea of theme nights, but I would be stuck on tilapia for fish night, since that's all I can really cook.

Rayn: if your crock makes food taste bad: get a new one. They're $10 at target.

Sure...

BBQ Pork Fried Rice - I will admit, I cheat and buy BBQ Pork from an amazing chinese BBQ place for like $5/LB - amazing deal.

I sweat:
Onions, garlic, ginger, chillies, lemon grass or kaffir lime leaves if I have, pickled ginger - add in chopped BBQ Pork -

Turn to high - Deglaze with Shao Sing cooking wine

Add soy sauce/Black vinegar/sweet soy/touch of sesame oil

throw in frozen peas

toss in steamed rice - mix well - top with scallions

enjoy

Sweet potato fries - easy as shit.

Chop up sweet potatoes with skin on - put on sheet pan, coat with olive oil S&P lately we have used a lot of Garamasala (indian spice) on these, you can use curry, or whatever - cook at 375 till they get crispy - enjoy.

Rayn: if your crock makes food taste bad: get a new one. They're $10 at target.Well, I'm trying to figure out why the one I have makes everything taste funny. It's a decent model Hamilton Beach and I hate the idea of flat out tossing it. One thing I definitely notice is the rubber gasket on the lid absorbs odors and I can't get them out. I'm wondering if that's contributing to the problem.

I need some new dishes to try in it, but I'm afraid I'll wind up throwing the food away.

This sounds awesome, would you mind posting the recipe?

Also, what are these turkey tacos you all speak of?

rayn get crock pot liners from walmart. theyre basically plastic bags that fit the pot. makes cleanup a breeze and ight fix your problem also you might need more liquid. most new pots ru hotter than older ones because of food safety laws and subseqently burn on the bottom a little if there isnt enough liquid etc.
