Spar competitively? What kind of drills do you do?

Gil 10-04-2009, 11:33 AM Where I used to go, we used a church classroom twice a week, and the class was pretty pansy until you got a couple belts from black. We went to a couple tournaments a year and did ok. My only real advice is goto the "open" or "all styles" tournaments. Around here, TKD fighters only goto TKD tournaments, while open tournaments are all karate, kung fu, and a lot of less well-known styles. This means the TKD fighters are a LOT more used to fighting other TKD fighters, while fighters at open tournaments aren't as used to it. Also it gives you a lot of exposure to different types of fighting. What you see at TKD tournaments will be a lot the same as at your studio. the open tournaments won't, so you get used to different attacks and might do better in a street fight/bar fight (if you ever get in one) KapsZ28 10-14-2009, 12:53 PM I did it for a little while, but didn't like learning all forms. Actually, I just sucked with all the forms. sirgelfee 11-02-2009, 04:10 AM did mai thai for about a month and a half before hurting my foot while sparring. it was an insane workout and made me much more fit. would highly suggest something with sparring though, it forces you to get your form right.
