i've never paid attention to my diet much but being skinny i want to pack on some pounds. the last few days i've been eating 3500-4000 calories. its mostly the usual suspects of eggs, tuna, peanut butter, but with a little junk food along the way when i'm hungry and in a rush... i'm also drinking lots of whole milk, a half gallon yesterday.

besides the fun side effect of having to take two massive dumps in the morning, i'm starting to have a hard time holding on to my breakfast. that doesn't make lot of sense to me since i sleep for ~8 hours a night and should be starving by then. i noticed breakfast is where i get a large chuck of calories so its gonna be hard to keep those numbers high if i have to hold myself to a crappy breakfast

is this feeling of 'too full to eat first thing in the morning' something that will go away as my body gets used to ingesting more or am i going to be upchucking eggs in the near future? or maybe there's something i can take before breakfast to make it stay down easier

cheers brolies

1) Are you working out or doing any kind of physical exercise?

2) Don't necessarily try to stuff yourself at breakfast. How much are you eating? (and what are you eating - if youre trying to eat like 6 eggs for breakfast, it might be too much.) I used to try to eat a lot in a few meals but realized that it works much better to eat multiple smaller meals with the focus being on protein intake.

3) It could just be that the way your body is set up you aren't ready to digest food in the morning. How soon after you wake up do you eat? Try drinking some water when you wake up and doing some light exercise to wake yourself up.

Edit: These are just ideas. I don't really know. I think listening to your body is the most important thing

i'm doing a 5x5 kind of deal. bench/squat/dl and weighted pullups/chinups, 3 times a week (or 2 when i'm lazy). no cardio.

today i made 3 whole eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 pc of toast, 2 glasses of milk. that's about my usual, but didn't finish it because i was about to puke.

i eat ~1 hr after waking up. i haven't been feeling hungry in that time between waking up and actually eating. i'll try the water thing tomorrow.

its the milk dude

your body is taking in plenty of solid calories and then you're piling on with the milk

space the shit out

How many meals a day are you splitting all these calories into? I'm naturally a really lean/small guy and when I started bulking I was eating around 5,000 calories a day, but had split it up between 7 or 8 meals a day. Made it a little bit easier to stomach helped my body process it smoother.

And did you jump from 2,000 to 4,000 overnight or has it been gradual? Your stomach may just not have stretched to accommodate the sheer increase in food consumption yet. Bulking can definitely be tough, just tweak the details until it starts to work for you.

Holy shit, a half a gallon of whole milk? Cut it back a little bit. If you are looking for protein I actually think I remembering reading in a magazine that skim milk has more protein than whole milk.

I have a weird schedule, Im out and about from 2pm to 12. for the most part Ive been getting in 4 meals, 2 before I leave the house, 1 at some random time during the day, one when I get home. snacking accounts for the rest of my calories. Im turning to milk because it's easy to get, plenty of calories and brotein, and I can tolerate it even when I feel too full to handle actual food

I'll try a different meal tomorrow, but I like that piling on of numbers that milk added

all of this calorie counting has made those 2000cal meals at tgi mcfunsters that much more impressive to me

When I think bulking I think potatoes, rice, milk, beef. Maybe you dont need to be drinking whole milk if you can get in the calories in a more efficient way. Instead of eating 1 cup of rice for dinner, make it 2. Instead of 6 ounces of steak, eat 10. I find pre and post workouts im the most hungry so I try to get in the bulk of my big calorie meals for then. Breakfast for me is 2 cups of oats, protein and almonds, which equates to almost 800 calories which can be consumed and digested very smoothly.

space the shit outah I didn't even think of that. When I started drinking milk, I would get nauseous halfway through a meal and couldn't finish. Switched to soy milk and haven't had the same issue.

definitely go to skim milk - same or more protein, no fat. also, look for foods that are more dense in calories, i.e. smaller size / higher calorie. you are definitely missing the starches - pastas, potatoes, rice, etc. those are high calorie / small size items.

here is a good article to get you started:

1% is only 10 more calories per serving and tastes 100% better :/ Make sure you are getting at least 75g of fat if your consuming more than 3500 calories as well.

well i had a pretty crappy day, seeing as how i didn't finish either breakfast or lunch i can only guess that i got to somewhere south of 2500 calories.

when you say you have protein in your oats, do you mean some kind of powder supplement? i use a muscle milk powder after workouts, but i dont think that is very calorie rich. i'd be interested in any recipes you've got :sunny:

"Recipes" for Akutaq (eskimo ice cream) tend to go as follows:

1. Take some cooked fish and mush it up.
2. Mix by hand with Crisco til creamy.
3. Add berries.
4. Freeze.

You contradict yourself in the span of two sentences.

how? drinking whole milk is not a substantial source of calories when you're talking 4000 cal per day. Switching to skim cuts out unnecessary fat, while maintaining the level of protein from that source. Separately, he should be eating things that have more calories by volume. where the fuck do you see a contradiction?

I had the same problem when I tried to bulk :D (tried because I gained few pounds then lost more when I cut, more than I gained).

anyways I found it helped to go jogging the first thing in the morning, or do yoga. Wakes up my system and after that I am starving and can eat like a king.

Which is pretty much the definition of caloric density.

Which is pretty much the definition of caloric density.

It also has a lot of unnecessary fat. Considering that there are plenty of calory dense foods that are lower in fat (or at least contain better fats, i.e. from nuts, etc.) it's stupid to drink whole milk if you plan your diet well.

Not sure how you read my post to say that caloric density should be the #1 priority over all other considerations, which is the only way you could conclude that I contradicted myself. Clearly it's not the only consideration, it just happens to be something to look at given the OP's issue. That doesn't mean every single thing you shove in your face has to be the most dense food you can find.
