I'm going to expand this to 5-8 minutes or so, but here's what I have so far:
Traces (http://sites.google.com/site/feloniousmonklol/Home/Traces.mp3)
The piano is sampled btw; I'm terrible at playing piano. I used a guitar to come up with a few of the ideas.
I'd love to hear feedback.

Meandering, no direction, no dynamics.
Sounds like Bach on Valium.

That's a start, I guess. Those problems are fixable as I keep working on the piece. I generally wait until I'm done with the harmony/melody before adding dynamics (adding them for a sampled piece can be time consuming.) Each section needs to resolve itself and there needs to be a more clearly defined intro theme and conclusion.
Thanks for taking a listen... It can be difficult sometimes to isolate these problems when you've listened to it over and over like I have.

I like it alot. Needs to be more going on in the bass tho. Reminds me of Chopin. Dont add any guitar, just solo paino. You dont need "dynamics" in the first minute of a song when establishing the melody ,the dynamics come later.

Thanks man.
I agree that there's no need to have a wide range of dynamics at this point in the piece, but it would help to add a crescendo somewhere and alter the volume (MIDI velocity) of certain notes to humanize it a bit more. I'm assuming that's what Stilgar meant.
Edit: Added more bass, some dynamics, and made some improvements in the melody. Expanded the intro. Sped it up and added more tempo variation--sounds less like Bach on valium. :)
