What do you guys do when you're just fucking wiped out? I have some nights when I get only like 5 or 6 hours of sleep so the next night I'm dead tired. I have to work out after I put the kids to bed so its basically the last thing I do.

Tonight was one of those nights. I ended up just basically going on willpower and did bust my ass through the whole workout but goddamn I'm dying right now, thought I was going to puke afterwards.

I had a power bar energy bar before the workout, who knows if that helped.

props on going, i usually turn into a pussy and decide on going the next day to make up for it. sometimes you're just so tired you know you're going to be worthless. but it's also good to go no matter what so you don't mess up your routine. if i am kind of tired though, not exhausted, i'll usually drink a red bull or some shit, just to wake up a bit

yeah I only get one rest day a week and I haven't messed that up yet so I've really been trying hard to get the workout in, even if it isn't my best.

if it's one of those days I try to mentally build myself up. listen to some fast pace music to help. usually by the end of my warm up run my adrenaline has kicked in but even still I wont' be as good as I would on a day where I'm well rested. I think you just have to do what you can on the tired days.

Maybe it would be more beneficial to just use that time to actually get the rest your body needs?*

*note there is no scientific evidence to support this claim, just what I'm thinking

well I mean I still went to bed earlier than usual and got a good nights sleep.

I guess I just really want to stick to the 6 day thing (going on 8 weeks now)

I've had some of my best workouts on days like that. Not always but sometimes. I try to remind myself that I'll spend the rest of my day being happier that I went rather than if I didn't.

There's a difference between days you just don't want to go and days where you have 0 energy though. Some days your body needs a rest, but I try not to let that happen.

caffeine may help you out if you're dragging ass

i usually just push through it on the bad days because i dont know a foolproof solution for this either

I usually jam the fuck out in the car on the way over to try and get some adrenaline flowing. Every once in a while you can totally turn it around and get a solid workout in.

I go for a .5 mile jog/run before my workout. I've had lots of days where I feel heavy behind the eyes and pretty tired beforehand, but after I make myself go through the warmup (I'm no runner believe me) it really helps get me going. My whole body feels more warmed up and I'm more alert/ready to give the lifts my best

I pussy out also. you shouldn't drink red bull though, it's so unhealthy

I was exhausted last night when I got to the gym... here's what I did...
- 5 minute warm up on row machine. This helped get the blood moving and energized me.
- 40 minute shoulder, back, abs in the weight room
- jogged a mile (still getting used to running on Vibrams...)
- 15 minutes hitting the bag and doing more abs in the martial arts room

I find it easier to knock the weight training down a notch and do more cardio when I'm tired. Also be sure to drink enough. I think that helps too. That's unfortunate that working out is the last thing you do for the day. I'm not a nutritionist, but it seems to me that working out and doing the requisite eating afterward right before bed might not be best... I dunno, though.

i find that if you pussy out on a workout it tends to start a downward spiral

excuses are easy to make

obviously you're going to miss days but i'd keep that to the bare minimum (ie: cant get out of bed sick, etc)

yeah this is pretty much my thought as well. Its way easier to miss a second day.

Fortunately I don't have to go to a gym, I work out at home, so it does make it easier to just say 'fuck it, I'm going up to do it now'

That said, I'm trying tea like 30 minutes prior. So far so good.

This is too true. I was going good 2 months straight - then I got hit with some bad stomach problem that had me puking 2 days straight - I couldn't keep anything down. I went to the gym 2 days after I "got better", but I couldn't do shit, so I missed a week. It's been 2 weeks since and I haven't gone now :(

I keep saying - I'll go today after work - but I get home and I'm exhausted and don't want to move.

Routines tend to help me get set, too. Working out at home has always been a failure for me because I require the spectacle of getting ready to go to the gym to prep myself mentally for the act of working out. By the time I've put my garb on and had a scheduled shake or snack I'm ready if I wasn't beforehand.

But if I'm wiped from doing physical labor I generally just skip out on the gym.

Yeah, maybe I should do that.

Some days, I get really excited about going to the gym - other days I almost dread it.

On a complete side note, I read your post originally as : "Leaping a log really helps me stay focused" and I thought, WTF?!
