this thread mainly geared towards people in southwest us, texas, cali, etc -

what is your favorite mexican place?

is it a small stand or privately owned joint? is it significantly better or worse than chipotle?

how often do you eat mexican food?

when i was living in northern california, i craved mex food non-stop. it's way better out there than back here on the east coast imo. what do you all think?

you're using CHIPOTLE as a standard???

may as well use taco bell dude...they are the same food to me.

i'd put chipotle above taco bell, but seriously, you CANNOT get good mexican food in a lot of areas on the east coast. it doesn't exist. how else do you measure a standard?

tell me about mex food in socal :)

As a personal preference I like New Mexican much more than "Mexican". There is much more of an Indian (Feather not dot) influence in the food there and in my opinion it is far superior. As far as good New Mexican food chain...there are none, you have to go there to get it. I make my own...with the help of the in-laws who send roasted green chili on a regular basis.

Toronto has very few (maybe 3-4) decent Mexican restaurants, one or two good ones...

When I was in SF recently, we had some great mexican food - - I have also heard that Chicago has gooood mexican....but for the most part, you are right.

Better idea - make your own - just as good as anything I have ever bought!

In fact, I made some pickled jalapeno's and red onions last night - one regular preparation, one smoked. great toppings for tacos!!!

i heard chicago actually has really good mexican as well, which seems weird, since it's so far from the border. i think because it's somehow on the trail or whatever that mexicans take when they immigrate to the us?

in so cal, there's a million places to eat that are awesome

one of the best I've ever been to is Los Quatro Milpas in Barrio Logan in San Diego.

holy CRAP

for really really authentic mexican food, there is no where else I have ever been that is anywhere near as good

the thing is, east of california you get sonoran style mexican food which is a lot different when we get (much more creamy in sonoran foods than ours--mexican food in arizona and new mexico are prime examples)

our food it really unique to the west coast and no where else, not even in the neighboring states.

so suck on that tribalwar

WOOHOO

edit-I recently made some home brew carne asada that was better than just about any place I can go pick it up near by...I'll make it again and post a recipe with pics

'authentic' mexican food blows ass. neither the aztecs nor the spanish had a palette worth shit. The best mexican food is always a blend, either tex-mex or cal-mex.

My favorite Mexican restaurant is a family owned place in Mesa, AZ:
Rancho Del Tia Rosa: Rancho de Tia Rosa :: Where Mexican Cuisine Becomes a Work of Art (http://www.ranchodetiarosa.com/)
The food isn't super authentic... but the quality is very good.

My second favorite place is one in Phoenix, AZ - I don't think it is a chain:
Aunt Chiladas: Phoenix Mexican Restaurant and Live Music (http://www.auntchiladas.com/)

My favorite fast food Mexican food:
Chipotle for Lunch/Dinner
Filibertos Welcome to the official website of Filibertos ! (http://www.filibertos.com/) for breakfast burritos

I like the carnitas, chicken mole, and chicharrones. But an important thing is that you can taste everything before you order it.

Places on the east coast suck. As we all know tamales are the best, however no one fucking makes tamales over here for some reason, and if they DO make them they are only chicken (I want pork or beef dammit!).
