[Feanfag lol] Spec Count?

So I was planning to help manage/create a 10s guild with a coworker, and one of the last discussion points we had before I bowed out (his friend the GM I think won't be able to get it done so I'm avoiding a potential headache like Adren used to have BEFORE it starts...) was raiding schedule. I proposed a schedule like the old StK one (Tues, Thurs, Sun) since it would be spaced out enough to reduce burnout while still allowing free time for weekends. Coworker's friend and GM (Dartak) contested this and wanted to do Tues, Wed, Thurs, and his reasons were respeccing.

Basically if most of the guild would want ot PvP as they do, the T-W-R schedule would minimize the respeccing done between PvP/arena and PvE. After some talking he mentioned most shamans and druids can have up to six different specs based on role and if it is PvE and PvP. I know all about how some people have more than two specs and the talent builds are very different between PvE and PvP but six sounds like a complete all-multi-tasker with all the bases covered.

So how many specs does your respective class need for both PvP and PvE? Could you get buy with two? Would you truly need up to six? Could you potentially make due with hybrid specs?

Most Hybrid classes need more than two specs. The actual number is not relevant.

On the warrior, I wish I had tri-spec. On the rogue, two does fine for me at the moment. Though if I had gear choices, I would need 3 specs.

Just feral, boomkin, and resto alone has 2 specs for EACH type of gameplay. That's 6 specs for a druid, the same applies to shamans and probably closer to 5 for a paladin.

On top of the respec costs, the glyph costs can get pretty high. I was spending 100-200g a week for respecs alone when I used to play the warrior. Some raids I needed to be prot. Others I can do arms. And I never changed my PvP spec. Too many macros to re-setup.

I wish I had 3 specs for my paladin, and I don't even arena anymore.

Hoping since they are homogenizing more stats in Cataclysm they may set to work on homogenizing PvP and PvE stats but I have a feeling that'll never happen.

Pretty sure even if they could ante it up and allow a PvP and PvE profile, each with two specs and glyphs it will end up complicating things more anyway though. One thing I did miss about WAR was the stats were the same between PvE and PvP.

It will never happen. It's simply that PvE and PvP abilities will always vary. PvP seeks highest potential with highest survivability with highest utility. PvE only requires one of those 3. Except when Data plays. ;)

You're probably right, I'm just being optimistic that since they have been noobifying the game overall since WotLK started (and are continuing into Cataclysm) maybe they'll simply do that with PvP as well. The PvP forums are ablaze with some nonsense about getting arena weapons with honor now. That would fuel my optimism more even if I don't know the specifics of what they are bitching about.

I'd like 5 specs.
FFB, FB/TTW, Arcane, Frost for utility sometimes, and PVP frost.

Yeah. It's been a while since I've played my Druid, but I could think of 7 or 8 different specs off the top of my head. Maybe that has changed, but you've got the two different specs for each talent tree (PvP and PvE respectively).

Then, you've got at least one or two specs that would be great for soloing. With that, you'd get a bit more of an all-around spec. Survivability for world PvP, but with more flexibility.

I haven't done Holy in my 75 priest in a while. Mainly I went Disc because I need Aegis and Penance to buy me time to get heals off to account for PUG failures. From 70 to 75 I mostly did PUG dungeons, so much so I got tired of fail-groups and when I went to solo I realized I now had to do work for my kills as opposed to healing people to do it for me.
