So...

I've been playing for the last seven years on a stack of Roland 405's. It's not the best amp setup for gigging, especially when there can be as many as six other people on the stage at the same time.

Last night I bought a Fender Cyber-Twin SE.

So far so good. I'm loving a lot of the features. Admittedly the newschool digital -attitude rubs me the wrong way since I'm a bit of a purist and would've preferred to go all tube. But I had the unit cranked last night and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning!

That said, anyone out there have anything to say about this amp? I have about 30 days to figure out if it's a keeper.

On the side, I've been playing baritone guitar for an outlaw country band here in Calgary called Cowpuncher - http://www.wepunchcows.com/

I recently joined and none of my work is on the current Mp3s. But check out "Melt Canada" for heartbreak honky tonk rock&roll!

I had a Cyber Twin head that I ran through a Marshall 4x12.

I didn't care much for it and sold it within a month. Moved on to a Fender Prosonic and then on to a modded 68 Bassman. What's funny is both of the latter amps were modeled on the Cyber Twin, and it did a truly awful job. IMO, the Cyber Twin is the holy grail of bar band amps, your mileage may vary.

PS-dig the song and band name

Bari guitars are rad! I played one for the first time about a year ago in the studio. The bari really helped thicken the distorted guitars I laid down. I bet it sounds pretty awesome in your outlaw country band!

I've heard good things about the Cyber Twin. Not sure about the SE though. I think Minstrel had one and didn't like it. One of the drawbacks is that it's not instantaneous when switching presets, but if it works for you that's all that matters. I've been thinking about trading in my Spider Valve for one, or maybe a Mesa combo. Tough to decide! Us guitarists are the worst; always on a quest for that elusive tone we hear in our head.

PS - your band sounds pretty fun. Any plans to come to Vancouver?

While I haven't played a Cyber Twin, I have played a few Line6 products, and while I like them okay for general gigging they are not suitable for making anything more than rough demo recordings. From the sound samples I've heard of the Cyber Twin (awful name), it fares about as well.

I have a Line6 AX2-212. I use it as my main amp for the hard rock band I play with. It works okay for gigs but I find it lacking in many areas. Tonally, it sounds great at bedroom volume and then as the volume comes up it really barks in the mids. This can be great for some things but not others. Worst transgression: As you lower the guitar volume, it never cleans up, it just sounds shittier.

I also have a Line6 Pod XT Live. There's some decent sounds on this unit and I have made some good recordings with it, paired with a Mesa 2:Ninety. Again, it lacks the perfect ability to lower the guitar volume and clean up the tone, but it's actually not as bad as the old AX2. It has some cool effects patches and some of the amps are actually quite inspiring to play - namely the Connor 50 line.

I would recommend a real Twin, and some pedals.
