I ordered two things.
s h e p t o n e . c o m : : : : : : Vintage Style Hand-Wound Guitar Pickups (http://www.sheptone.com/hum.htm)
Here is the blurb:
TRIBUTE SET:
My Standard matched set uses rough finished Alnico 5 magnets and an average of 8.0-8.2K wind on the bridge and average 7.6-7.7K wind on the neck. Although the originals were never installed in certain positions based on their resistance, this has proven to be the range of the best sounding pickups in those positions. Sets can also be built with your choice of alnico II, III, or IV magnets. Standard set comes in zebra, reverse zebra, or double-black. Pickups come standard with gibson 50mm pole spacing. Don't let those resistances fool you... anyone can wind the crap out of a pickup, but that won't make it sound better. Sheptone tributes were carefully designed for the BEST sound through extensive winding/re-winding and comparison testing...
My pickups are also available with your choice of winds of up to 9K. When ordering custom resistance specify resistance during checkout.
----------------------------------------------
I'm getting:
A little on the hot side ~8k
Offset coils
Different Slugs
In zebra black/creme - $229 for the pair in 4 weeks
I also ordered the Jimmy Page wiring harness from Jimmy Page Wiring (http://jimmypagewiring.com/)
Short shaft pots for the SG I have.
$149 - also due in about 4 weeks.
-----------------------------------
Here's the blurb:
My Jimmy Page rig includes 4 push pull pots, Paper in Oil Tone Caps, it coil splits both pickups, does phase and series, all mods done, This rig is already wired up and ready to drop in.
------------------------------------------
The SG is a perfect platform to fuck with.
I paid $579 for it new.
I'll have a pair of 2 conductor 490s left over and the original Gibson wiring harness.
In it's place, CTS 500k pots with Sprague .022 Caps & vintage cloth wire.
And some nice boutique pickups.
Wait a month or so and I'll post pictures and some clips.
Here is the control cavity with the OEM guts.
Volume pots are on the left and tone on the right. Little shitty disc capacitors eat tone.
Top is Rhythm/Neck and bottom is Treble/Bridge.
Input jack on the extreme right and pick up wires are the braided jobs coming in through the hole at the upper left.
The shorter of the two is the Neck/Rhythm pickup.
Just below the pickup wires is the pickup selector switch.
