This forum's not exactly overflowing with threads, so I'm sure you guys can get over one more even if the subject is old hat. Kindof a log book on my feelings on the program.

First, I'm coming from a low cardio high weight workout, 8-10 rep range, core lifts + lots of row\pullup work. 3 to 4 day split, depending on the week, religiously, generally a bad diet in comparison to most gym goers, but overall pretty clean(just not anal). I do run either a couple miles or a hiit session twice a week, but that's about it.

Wasn't expecting much from a 'home workout video' but I'm never against trying something new.

Currently, I'm on the first week, only one workout left(kenpo) and then a rest day.

So far, morning weight has dropped 4lbs, I can only figure that working out at night instead of 3 or 4 in the afternoon has caused this, in connection with the plyometric workout(that's when it really dropped). I figure I lost a lot of water. I also loaded on creatine this week, which I assumed would raise my water weight, but whatever, I can't explain it

The workouts are pretty tough. Little more endurance than I'm used to, and I probably should be cutting during this, but we'll see how it goes. Even though the weight portions are quite a step away from a weightlifters workout, I feel like even when I go back to my normal routine I should throw this in every now and again, just feels well rounded.

Yoga. I will never make fun of yoga ever again. I couldn't do have the shit, I couldnt do any of it well, I sweated my balls off, and muscles are sore that I didn't know I had(honestly).

the 15 minute 'ab ripper' workout. I will be extremely proud of myself if I can do that thing in it's entirety at the end of the program. All I have to say about that.

edit: This workout is actually easier for girls, a lot of the moves are based on flexibility and body weight. Great workout for you and your gf.

bodyweight is easier for girls?
I beg to different, just that your flexibility sucks and can't handle your bodyweight, does not mean it would be any easier for the girls. It's the power in the end of your range of motion that's hard to get, and that can't be achieved on "hitting the gym" with squats and deadlifts etc.

and handling bodyweight is harder for females because their natural bodyfat% is much higher than that of men, so they're carrying more fat and less mucles than me. Even if they're naturally more flexible than men (which is debatable), the program doesn't require insane ammounts of flexibility, so it's easily achievable to both genders.

i concur that the yoga and ab ripper videos are hard, but the yoga one is fantastic for me seeing as i cant touch my toes.

I guess by 'girls' I meant 'people with less body mass' much in the same way a 6 year old can out boulder a lot of really good climbers.

I didn't mean the vagina helped

i can finally do Ab Ripper X all the way through, doing all the reps as well. It feels good to be able to keep up with them and finish when they do.

k,
you're right, weight to strength ratio is the most important thing in bodyweight exercises.

you didn't like it?

I like the p90 quite a bit. I really don't like gyms though and love that I can just do this whenever I can chisel out the time in the day. I can't imagine that I'd be able to get to a gym 6 times a week.

Yeah main reason I got into this was because I didn't have the motivation to drive to a gym everyday and probably wait for weights/machines to open up. I love that I can do this whenever I want in my own home with scheduled workouts and a pace to keep. Just too easy.

I have my recovery week coming up next week, I remember hating this because I always felt incredibly weak when transitioning to the new workouts. Yet during that first week of change is when I would notice a huge jump in results, like the change in biceps/triceps exercises for one really seemed to have an impact. I don't know anything about muscle confusion or whatever they talk about, but it works for me.

Also I did a ton of dive bomber pushups on an ex gf this weekend, fantastic stamina, thanks P90x.

I couldn't keep up with the speed of the videos. I'm a smoker so I'd have to break between sets to breathe; that would take me out of my "zone" and I'd wind up losing interest after 30 minutes. If I were to try them now I wouldn't have a problem, but I like my current routine. The videos definitely work, I don't doubt that at all.

the videos are intense. holy shit.

I can barely keep up. I have to redo my room in order to do this properly and get some weights.

The plyometrics(sp?) is fucking killer.

edit: tbh, I am too out of shape for this to be effective for me. Do you guys do the strict eating guidelines as well? For a poor college student what do you suggest in buying. I wouldn't mind turkey sandwiches everyday, I'd rather have cheap m-f lunch/breakfast and every now and then a nice dinner.

That's the thing about the p90x that cracks me up. They market it as a way to get into shape for out of shape people...but you really need to be in shape already for it.

It has a massive drop out rate due to this.

That's why I started with p90 and will move to the x afterwards.

I agree that p90x is not for beginners at all.
