Crybabys suck since the 90s and my last vintage just broke.
Recommend a Good Wah?Stilgar 05-13-2009, 04:28 PM Crybabys suck since the 90s and my last vintage just broke. old_skul 05-13-2009, 04:35 PM Been using a standard Vox for a while now. I think I will break that out for tonight's practice. Metropolis 05-13-2009, 05:16 PM i use a Morley Bad Horsie. it's "ok" but nothing great...there are mods for them that make them a ton better (true bypass, better sweep range). AniMisM 05-13-2009, 07:18 PM I have a Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah, but it's a POS compared to the Line6 wah that's built into my shortboard. I haven't been able to find a good standalone wah either, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Metropolis 05-13-2009, 10:13 PM If you want to hear the Bad Horsie here is a vid clip. My standard rig with the Horsie thrown in between the guitar and the input. It has some tone suck....all wah's do..but i prefer it's more growly\midrangy sound to a screamer like the dunlop. I also love the fact that you step on it and go as opposed to having to push all the way down to hit the switch like on most other wahs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntnks_hNt4I Here is a really good Bad Horsie demo...way better then mine LOL. Sounds really good with low gain\bluesy sounds and a much brighter tone then i use hehe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNj_gTEzCQk&feature=related old_skul 05-14-2009, 01:24 PM I have a Morley Mark Tremonti Power Wah, but it's a POS compared to the Line6 wah that's built into my shortboard. I haven't been able to find a good standalone wah either, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I took my Vox to practice last night. I went back and forth between it and the modeled wah in my Line6 AX2-212. I like the feel of the Vox wah a little better. It takes much less effort to engage it and operate it. The wah sound is pretty good - distinctly different from the Crybaby wah sound on the Line6 - but the sweep has a different feel that swings really abruptly. It's sort of like the first 40% of pedal travel doesn't do anything, and then the middle 20% is where all the transition tones are, and then the final 40% doesn't really do much either. The Line6 wah, on the other hand, has a sweep that's a little lower in the frequency range, and I think has a broader octave. The pedal travel is consistent the whole range of the pedal. It's got a nice, musical sound that doesn't have that super-nasally overtone at the bottom of the sweep, nor does it have that piercing ring on the high end at the top of the sweep. I sure wish it were easier to engage, though - you have to really press hard with your foot. For the record I'm using the old longboard with just the 3-digit display - this one: http://www.americanmusical.com/ProductImages/Large/p1616.jpg It's about time to upgrade that amp. Ani, still digging your Spider Valve? I've been considering that, or maybe putting together a Mesa rig (again). I could probably sell my TriAxis/2:90 rig and fund whatever I wanted. Yea, my Morley wah is spring loaded and has a separate gain control which I found handy, but the sweep on my shortboard is way better, and it operates much smoother with no noise, unlike the Morley. http://www.www.musicstoreinc.com/products/images/990400901_01.jpg I'm just using the spider valve as a bare bones amp now, bypassing all the built-in effects. For that it works great, and I highly recommend it if that's all you're planning to use it for (with external fx). If you can afford a Mesa though, I'd still go Mesa. you have to have snake skin boots for the pedal to work right:lol: Orestes 05-15-2009, 03:11 PM I was looking at bass Wahs a while ago, and decided if I did end up getting one it'd be a Morely. Guitarist in my band used the Morely Bad Horsie too and I like the sound a lot. Anyone use one of these? old_skul 05-18-2009, 10:20 AM I didn't know BBE made a wah until you mentioned it. Looks pretty cool - you can adjust the Q/peak response on it externally, which is really cool. I'm always too lazy to mess with stuff like that unless it's on a knob somewhere. butters 05-18-2009, 11:05 AM anyone use a fulltone clyde wah? They are based on the old Vox Cylde McCoy. I have one of these as well and they are good for metal, and you can even get some funk tones out of them with the right setup. Metro is right though because they are a bit limited in their sweep range compared to other wahs. However, I really dig their aggressive tone because it takes a solo up a notch if used correctly. You can find them for fairly cheap on Ebay as well, if you're looking for a cheap wah that will get the job done. I also agree with Metro in that I like spring-loaded wahs versus a regular wah which needs to be turned on via the foot pedal. That shit is annoying. | ||
