Entry level electric bass help

Hello ladies and gents,

I found a couple decent deals locally on two entry-level basses. I currently play an acoustic electric and want to expand. If I decide to stick with it, I plan on exchanging it out for a higher quality one before too long. I doubt this would be used for anything other than practice or perhaps an open-mic type setup.

Funk, blues, and jazz for the most part.

So what are the pros & cons of a yamaha bb404 & Ibanez GSR200? I'm open to other suggestions, but would prefer these two as I'd like to make the purchase soon (today).

The prices are comparable (bb404 for $100, GSR for $150, both essentially new).

Go with the GSR. Our bassist started on one it worked until he got his jazz bass.

At that price range the features and quality dont differ all that much. They're all pretty cheap instruments.

You should spend more, the quality increases exponentially from 100 to 400.

Great is quite an overstatement.

Went with the GSR. For the price it's pretty sweet, I just wish it was shielded. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll spend the several hundred if I decide to stick with it assfrags. I can always turn this thing around.

Yeah good call on the GSR. My friend had one for a while and I thought it was pretty nice. I started with an Essex P-Bass from Rondo which I love and have since moved onto a Fender Standard Jazz. Hopefully I will be upgrading again within the next year.

I used a GSR 250 like 3 1/2 years as my starter bass, still have it. Got a Yamaha RBX-774 now, awesome with tube a distortion..

Both of those basses are about the same. I would lean towards the Ibanez, but check both of them out. Buy whichever one feels and sounds better to you.
