I think it's pretty good. Everyone's first reaction is probably "it's great but why does it sound so poppy." At least that was mine. I don't care about it though, it's a good album. I'm happy that they took it in a Sung Tongs direction because I didn't enjoy Feels or Strawberry jam much aside from 1-2 songs.

i love it, summertime clothes & my girls are my favorites

strawberry jam was good, i don't really like any of their earlier stuff (everyone says it's "better," but i think it's just...meh).

Their older stuff was more about the sounds and textures.

Yeah Steve I think you're right. I think on MPP they're representing creativity stagnant and moving forward. What I mean is that they've definitely preserved that animal collective 'sound' with the alternating, frenetic and sometimes choral vocal sections from Panda Bear and Avey Tare, along with that typical blending of harmonies with jolting/disruptive electronica.

Where they move in a new direction is the way the songs unravel. On tracks like "No More Running", "Bluish", and "Also Frightened" they don't rush; the instrumentation lulls you in briefly before meandering vocal sections enter in. Typically, animal collective tracks have been known to hit you with a lot, very quickly all at the start. The single "My Girls" also does this to a certain extent.

I think this is why people commonly perceive "something about their sound being more poppy"; it's the adoption of more of a pop song [I]structure[I] that gives off that impression. Furthermore, the music is more lyrically and sonically expressive, and in turn presents a more mature attitude toward their lives: "All just want four walls and adobe slabs for my girls"; and their jobs: "I don't mean to seem like I care about material things like a social status".

But yeah, I like this new direction they seem to be moving in; 'No More Running' hopefully represents a new sonic landscape they want to explore with us.
