The Moment

Ever had one of those "Moments" in a song where you're playing exactly what needs to be played?

I had several of those this weekend while recording several different songs. One of those is in the breakdown during the Kurayami song.

It's so good, and so dynamic, it just makes me smile every time I hear it.

We are in eager anticipation of this newest release

I think that feeling is what musicians strive for, really. That's usually when you know you've got a potential hit on your hands. For me, it's when the hair on my arms stands up. I've had it happen multiple times when I'm listening down to a good mix at high volume, but typically not when I'm playing.

A lot of songs give me goosebumps, which is what led me to pursue learning to play an instrument (even being SORT OF late in the game at age 20)

I got my first electric guitar at age 19. That's also when I started to take lessons.

Can't wait to get that moment. For now, life is a bitch so I stopped my guitar lessons, I have a couple exercices I'll keep practicing to not lose it completely, can't wait to get good with this instrument.

You can stop guitar lessons without much of an issue. Just don't stop practicing. Focus on your weaknesses when you practice, and focus on your strengths when you play.

20 is not late. When I was 18 ( I had already been playing for 4 years or so) there was a guy I jammed around with. He had played drums for quite a while and was a badass drummer and he wanted to play guitar. He picked the guitar up (he was around 19 or so at the time) and in 6 months or a year or so he was shredding paul gilbert/racerx type of shit.

He never really took time to learn any chords or anything, he knew all the basics and shit but nothing to deep in theory. All the scales and arpeggios shit just came easy to him.

Guitar is not that hard to learn if you just spend the time with it and dont over think it.

Hey, back to the original subject.

During the breakdown of the Kura song (now in my sig), that's when I got the shivers. Am I right? Wasn't that the right thing to play? (The breakdown is during the lyrics "five days seven hours" and the part that makes me shiver is when the next line starts - "we don't know where he's gone now")

Be honest.

To be honest, I think you should stop stroking yourself with this thread. The song is nothing special.

:(

I guess my point was that there's a moment sometimes in a song where you are so pleased with yourself that you don't care what anyone else thinks about it.

Thanks for being honest, though.

Sorry for being an ass, you know I can be pretty blunt when I give my opinion. I do appreciate your feedback on this forum, old_skul, and you're one of the more knowledgeable people in the music collective. It's just that your ego seems to show through in a lot of your posts, and I guess that rubs me the wrong way. :fight:

I listened to the song, I thought there was gonna be this blazing solo or a riff like Cult Of Personality or something with the way he was carrying on about it

No problem dude. I appreciate the bluntness. Along with my monster ego, which usually manifests as arrogance and a know-it-all attitude, I have extremely thick skin. I can take it. Especially when it comes from someone whose technical skills I respect, like yours. The monster ego cushions the impact :)

But regarding that "moment" - I'm seriously not talking about something that happens in a tune that I think will impress other people. It's that moment where you're communicating musically and the message gets through. It's little detail stuff like playing ahead of or behind the beat intentionally, or slurring a note in just the right place, and speaking musically as if it were your own personal language.
