Unable to afford lessons right now, I'm hoping I can be let in on some proven jazz resources (books, websites, etc), so if you have them, post them!

Jimmy Bruno's "No Nonsense Jazz Guitar" DVD is awesome. You can rent it on Netflix if you don't want to shell out the $50 or whatever.

It helps to learn music theory.

Learn how to harmonize a scale in majors and minors on the fly. Then you can really learn how to play some jazz chords.
