Need tips on how to ski properly

So I got the basics, and can get moderate speeds on straight routes where I have a big drop + dj.

I know to tap down jet right before I fall.

What I can't seem to do right is to maintain either momentum when im chasing (other chasers are much faster) or how to fly forever like on that youtube video (I gather its ski key + tap up jet/combo, but I need it explained a little better, I cant get it to work).

I think my keybinds are a little warped. For instance right mouse button is simply up jet and not jump/combo. Is that a bad idea? Its a little distracting holding spacebar down and the rmouse button at the same time.

Also im constantly pressing forward movement key when im skiing out of habit. Is that slowing me down?

First and foremost, that video that you watched I believe is the video from many builds ago so movement and jetting and the likes have changed. That being said one tip I have is to use the downjet combo is you have not already. When you begin to hit a downward slope, down jetting a little bit helps increase momentum.

Be careful as it will use your jet fuel so you will want to time it so taht you gain momentum but then gain enough back when you launch off a hill you will have adequate energy to hit another slope.

Legions Players - Videos - Survival Guide (http://www.legionsplayers.com/videos/survival-guide/)

Most of the information will not be new to you, but there is no better way to help someone ski than show them. So watch the video, and it should help you with some of the differences to the jetting system and overdrive as you are a tribes player you can skip the part about the weapons.

Also, I recommend leaving the keybinds the same, most players play with right mouse as skate, and upjet as spacebar. It may be confusing at first, but I believe you have the utmost control in this setup. Downjet as left shift.

Also , keep in mind there is a big change coming to the physics soon so you'll be able to retain momentum a lot better, and slight changes will make bigger differences. Plus the outrider will be faster than the recruit.

I have my controls configured so that jetting and skiing is more or less the same as it was in tribes (space is ski/enable jets and left mouse is jump). When I hold down on the space bar, I ski, and to jet up, I just add in the left mouse button. It's a little different, but it's more or less the same as what I was used to seeing as I always jumped before I jetted anyway.

Skiing in Legions is not too too hard, all you have to realize is that you lose a lot more momentum on the upslopes than you did in Tribes. To counter this, make sure you use down jets on the down slopes as much as possible without using up all of your energy, and jet up the inclines. It's pretty much the same as what you were used to, just a little bit different. It may take you about fifteen minutes to figure out how to do it efficiently if you used to play tribes a lot, but otherwise, it's rather straight forward.

Have fun :)

theres nothing really to say that hasnt been said except practice

also, to me the light seems sort of crippled as to how much energy it has/regenerates compared to the medium. i can usually ski a lot better with a medium
