So today I received a check from Sallie Mae (Disbursement Refund Processing Center) labeled as a Student Stipend Check. The check is for $1,982.00.

The thing is, I have no freakin clue why I'm receiving this check. The only thing I can note is that last semester I dropped one of my classes to make my load a little easier with the baby being born and all. I'm guessing it has something to do with that...I tried to call them but of course the office is closed already.

Just curious...has anyone received something like this before? Is this cash basically my loan money that went over what my school cost b/c I dropped a class..and now they sending me a check that I can do with as I please?

it's part of your student loans. you'll have to repay it eventually.

don't worry
cash it

it only carries a one time charge of $50 and 21% interest over 20 years when they'll then send you the first bill.

you borrowed too much money and they don't want you to give it back.

Do with as you please = PUT IT IN SAVINGS RIGHT NOW. If there is a **** up, you can still have earned interest. If it isnt a **** up, you wont have pissed it away on beer.

Lol.

I'm not going to use it for fun. If I used it for anything it would be to pay off high interest debt that I have. Or just hang onto it, surviving on 1 salary while wife is on baby-leave is no fun. She's taking off for 3 months too :(

I would pay it back. Better now than over 10 years at whatever% interest.

Double-check for fine print and call them when their office is open.
