[Please Halp] Vista 64bit bug?

I recently built a new rig to play since my old one struggled. I have Vista 64bit (Home Premium unfortunately, so no changing to 32 bit with ultimate) and the game will not run, not fully anyway.

The game starts and patched just fine, but when I click play, it goes to a black screen with sound (let me finish before you reply...) and then it goes to the scenery of the char selection screen. No login screen, and no text showing.

I have googled the hell out this, and checked the AOC forums to no avail.

I know this was a problem with beta, and I have tried the disable full screen and changing the res in the vid settings; and I have also gone into the text file to change the shader settings, but nothing has worked.

Anyone out there running this in 64bit, and if so, how did you get it to work? Or, does anyone know how to fix this?

I currently have an 8800GT in but I have two HD 3870s in the mail to run in crossfire.


Sidenote: I have not tried to reinstall as I will be reformatting once I get the new vid cards just to start fresh with ATI.

I have 64 Ultimate and I have no issues at all. I did upgrade my video driver to the latest prior to installing. My PC was also built recently.

I just reformatted 2 times both vista 64bit because of a hd failure and both times had 0 problems with the game. My "process" for installing was simple:

Install Windows Vista.
Turn off WHQL Verification
Install Updates
Install Spybot, CCLeaner and Avast Antivirus.
Install latest Nforce 4 x16 AMD Drivers
Install latest Geforce Drivers
Install conan and patch
defrag

Have yet to have a problem, actually even in beta I ran the client fine. Albiet it ran like shit, it still would run. /shrug sorry with out more details on your system besides just the hardware there is no way to tell. It could be malware, driver issues, curropted install no idea.

One thing I would try before reinstalling your OS though is download Driver Cleaner, remove drivers, reboot into safemode and use driver cleaner to remove any reg entries or shit like that and then reinstall latest ATI drivers?

I will try that. I have the driver cleaner already. It may just be an issue with the motherboard/vid card incompatibility. I really don't know. I am sure I will get it figured out trying the methods suggested.

i'm having an issue too...

everything works fine all up until i take control of my charecter, if its not set at max draw distance for low detail, i see flashing polygons and faint out lines of crap
