How the fuck do you melee types do it?

The main reason why I went with demo in the first place is because I couldn't find a setup to play a melee character with that worked. Today I've decided to try once again and have now returned from a marathon session of banging my freaking head against the wall.

The most successful setup I found was putting my L/C/R attacks on the S E F keys respectively and using shift+SEFD for movement. While it felt the most natural (moving and attacking in the same direction on the same key) it tended to fire off the attack whenever I was too slow in reaching the shift key, this led to a number of premature Sneak Attacks. Also, it was impossible to Sprint (Alt), Run Forward (Shift E) and Jump (Space) with this setup.

After that setup I tried in vein to bind my functions to my mouse, hoping for the old CTRL/SHIFT/ALT + LMB/RMB button hotkeys I had in Vanguard, as well as binding a couple functions to my mousewheelLeft and mousewheelRight. That too miserably failed.

So I'm left asking how the hell do you guys do it, do you really just stick with the original 123 keys? Have you found some way of making the Combat Rose more functional? Are there ways to make macros that are currently being kept off the main forums?

Now that I've played around with it some more I guess using the Alt hotbar isn't too bad. If the combo linked to 1 requires a Left Attack you put a Left Attack in the Alt hotbar so then once it's time to attack you hit 1,Alt1 forgoing any fuckup where you hit 1 before alt it works.

Though I'd still prefer 3 keys or buttons somewhere I could quickly hit on their own.

I use 123 currently, and will hopefully be able to bind DL and DR to centre-mouse 1 and centre-mouse 3. Keeps it easy imo.

Assassin

I move with ESDF. W and R change between Bar1 and Bar2.
Bar1: Swift Strikes on 1, L C R on 2 3 4, Lethargy on 5, Grim Corr on 6, SDS on A.
Bar2: Vampyric Nature, Life Leech, Necrotic Leech, Consume Souls.

Now that I'm over 40 I bound LL to Q and LR to T.

Still got few keys free for whatever I need + I can always bind bar3 to G or whatever and effectively have 3 bars without ever needing to reach Shift (except for sprinting).

123ZV for the 5 attacks.

I have always used A - left strafe S- right strafe D- backwards F- foward instead of the WASD for movement so it pretty much leaves me with the surrounding buttons for easy binds.

QWERTXC456 are all hot keyed for combos and spells and don't require out of the way finger reaching.

Long term buffs and such are on a seperate out of the way bar and I just click them.

Basically I can always press whatever I need while being able to continually strafe or move.

It is annoying not being able to bind shit to my mouse though cause I have razer copperhead and there are lots of places to bind.

I use an MX revolution from logitech. It happens to have 2 buttons on the side and a scroll wheel. I've been gaming with EDSG for the longest time for movement. My hands are big and this allows me 1-key-away access to F, H, and obviously whatever else is around. I bind a lot of things.

On my mouse, the two side buttons: Forward is attack right, Back is attack left, and side scroll wheel is attack center.

So, I typically move around like it's an FPS now and using my mouse to attack. I have considered using left and right click as my attacks too, but I'm too lazy to rebind the targeting system.

The number one reason I don't use the default set up is when your'e chasing someone, if you're attacking, you're forced to stop moving unless you two-button your mouse.

So, binding them to my mouse allows me to move constantly while clicking mouse buttons to attack.

I have the G5 mouse, I unbound the shift key for sprint and use it as a modifier, I use the thumb mouse button as my middle attack and shift + thumb mouse button as sprint, I use mouse wheel side tilt as left and right attack and if I get my Conq to the point that I will have lower left and right attacks I will assign those to Shift+ left and right tilt on the mouse wheel. I have the mouse sensitivity buttons setup to change between defensive and frenzy stance. All of that is only possible by using the logitech software to assign keystrokes to the mouse buttons.

I use numbers 1-3 as combos, I use q and w and shift + q and e for combos and stuns, I have z and shift + z assigned as well.

I have the G15 keyboard but haven't setup any macros because I really can't bring myself to play the game much.
