My favorite MMO for PvP was definitely Shadowbane. With that said - does this game even compare? I've considered buying but I don't want another time sink like WoW.

DeadlyRabbit 06-06-2008, 11:00 AM I haven't gotten to a level to get a good feel for it, getting killed by teams of people 30-50 levels higher isn't a good indicator, although for a lot of people ganking lowbies is pvp. Homerpf 06-06-2008, 11:42 AM Would one of the teams be goonheim by chance Shadow13 06-06-2008, 11:42 AM on non racial open pvp server: Lots of 2 on 1, 3 on 1 fights. Certain areas have lots of bind camping. Most people gank for quests Ive run into some will gank an area people like to farm. higher levels, 55+ Ive been getting in more 3 on 3 on 3, multigroup fights over spawns. Solo Ive been beaten by a group of 20's in my low 40's which I like. I like that lower levels can band together and dominate a higher level, in games like Warhammer that would really never happen. for the most part pvp is just a hectic whoever gets the jump first with out fucking up CC back and forth, its fun, but I wouldn't mind getting some decent exp for doing it like in Warhammer because I like the combat more in AOC. Homerpf 06-06-2008, 11:45 AM Hey matt which team were you on, carnage or conviction? Most of my team likes to kill whoever they see heh. We've only got one team we are cool with (PRX) and pretty much fight over instances with all the other teams in kheshetta. And I thought they were adding in the pvp xp in the near future if that's what you are talking about. Shadow13 06-06-2008, 11:49 AM Hey matt which team were you on, carnage or conviction? We pretty much kill anyone but Provoked and PRX if they are in a spawn we want. If its Goons, Harm, Rising Sun, -S- or any of the other wannabe goonies we will kill them whenever, but for the most part no one seems against the idea of an alliance, but no one seems real interested in it either. /shrug fuck it. DeadlyRabbit 06-06-2008, 02:16 PM Would one of the teams be goonheim by chance I don't think it has ever been them that were a problem, I have seen players with that tag around. I really don't care what guild somebody is in, it doesn't make a difference at this point with me only being level 24, random people can pick me off pretty easy since I am a conq and suck at the game. Only reason I mentioned goonheim (SA members) was because the only time you see them is in in the lower level towns messing with people. Haha yeah it's pretty much the same way. Gotta find out what everyone wants to do this weekend we are just starting to get everything organized. TonyElTigre 06-06-2008, 02:41 PM so is melee pretty much broken? I keep hearing you cant move and combo so the REVOLUTIONARY COMBAT is really just a waste of time. AdreNaLiNe 06-06-2008, 02:50 PM In 1v1, it is a total pain in the ass. In group combat, it becomes less of an issue. Your melee attacks are typically in the shape of a cone, so you can hit multiple targets. In group v group combat, people stay in to fight, so those that effectively know how to use their combos and position themselves properly should make it fun. One other incredibly important component to this game and PvP is the fact that there is collision (players and NPCs even). So, if you wanted to focus on a target for the melee, it is easy to trap someone in, beat the living balls out of him. Combo problems are only for when you're attacking someone (ganking) and they start running away. You can only chase and white stab them to death, which isn't that hard (pop a stam pot and go to town). White swings take no stamina (for an assassin anyway). I expect the end-game to be more PvP based and to be a lot more fun than 1v1 combat unlike WoW. I hear they're implementing a PvP-based experience system as well. That would make it so I don't have to grind so damn much. cylus 06-06-2008, 02:52 PM Are there any kind of pvp objectives? I'd hate for another "battlegrounds" (wow) type pvp. Shadowbane was pvp done right, and everything else done wrong, but it was fun. How's the balance for group fights, etc? DeadlyRabbit 06-06-2008, 03:00 PM I play a Conq and even the people at 80 say that playing the classes isn't about owning people one on one, it is a support class that supports group pvp, this game isn't meant to be a solo pvp game, right on pvp servers because you can pvp in every quest area it is frustrating when you are soloing, doesn't bother me much I just log out if it feels like I can't get anything done. At level 25 I am going to have 2 new stuns through feats, so that will be big in our little pvp groups we move around in, between my auras and doing stuns that will be my roll more then dpsing down a player. cylus 06-06-2008, 03:03 PM I play a Conq and even the people at 80 say that playing the classes isn't about owning people one on one, it is a support class that supports group pvp, this game isn't meant to be a solo pvp game, right on pvp servers because you can pvp in every quest area it is frustrating when you are soloing, doesn't bother me much I just log out if it feels like I can't get anything done. Hope it's not another game where you lose control of your character for an entire fight.. also how quick is the leveling? I can't afford to play much. DeadlyRabbit 06-06-2008, 03:23 PM Hope it's not another game where you lose control of your character for an entire fight.. also how quick is the leveling? I can't afford to play much. Ya that is it basically, the high level Conq talk about how to beat the casters where you charge in stun, frenzy stance, combo, stun again, another combo, stun again another combo, and if you can't kill them in that time you are dead because the stuns and knockdowns have a 30 second cool down and you won't last long enough to do that again. kyuss 06-06-2008, 05:02 PM so is melee pretty much broken? I keep hearing you cant move and combo so the REVOLUTIONARY COMBAT is really just a waste of time. thats how i feel as a barb. i haven't pvp'd a lot, even less in a group setting. i'm kind of assuming shit is super fucking broken, and there will be some major changes. imo, they to make combos useful in a pvp setting. as of right now, clicking a 2 button combo is nearly impossible on a target who isn't rooted/stunned. i'm only lvl 34, so ima make my way to 80 before i say fuck it. also, i pretty much suck on my char in pvp, so i have a lot to learn. Joemomma5000 06-06-2008, 05:30 PM You can queue up combos before you get to them. I will queue up a combo, and sprint at them while pressing the button. When you get to them you unleash a couple of sweet hits and hopefully chunk them down. Homerpf 06-06-2008, 05:33 PM Group PVP isn't that bad actually, it was before they had the raid groups setup so you could do more than 6v6 without hitting your own guys as well. It's been going pretty smoothly so far and in a group PVP no class is extremely overpowered, there is still a lot of tweaking to be done on all of the classes including fixing a lot of broken feats so things could change pretty dramatically. And cylus leveling isn't too bad as long as you aren't by yourself. I hit 80 last night and I know there have been multiple people from TW who have hit it in the past few days/week. I did quests up to about 50, then started with the AOE groups in Mountains/Aztel's/Kheshetta. Only problem a lot of people are going to have on deathwhisper at least is finding a leveling spot in kheshetta, as it is right now big teams fight over the instances and send their leveling groups to the 3 main camps while the 80s fight near the spawn points. edit - btw conq so far has had the biggest outcome in PvPs, as long as the rest of the group is made up decently if you dont take down the conq right away you're gonna have to sit there and kill the team 2-3 times until you realize they have a conq or they finally get you. Never thought I'd see teams going after the soldiers before healers but its a must the way their furious inspiration is setup right now. Something for you guys to try (they've tweaked it on some classes) is to start your combo and use your rush skill (most fighter classes have them) and get a combo off before he has the chance to do anything. TseTse 06-06-2008, 06:42 PM Are there any kind of pvp objectives? I'd hate for another "battlegrounds" (wow) type pvp. Shadowbane was pvp done right, and everything else done wrong, but it was fun. How's the balance for group fights, etc? One vital thing to keep in mind is that the main pvp "situation" will be sieges. Sieges take place in a special area of the game where you can make guild-based battlekeeps (not the same as guild cities). To do this requires serious guilds cuz you need a "tier3" guild city to be eligible (it's a lot invested). We've not seen siege battles yet, so it's hard to say. But with rhinos, war mammoths, siege equipment and large scale fighting... it oughta be pretty badass with stronger guilds and pvp'rs involved. Imagine serious tactics with stealth groups flanking, etc. Hoepfully that aspect of the game will not disappoint because that's going to be the meat and potatoes for a lot of people. Senty 06-06-2008, 08:21 PM The problem seems to be with the concentration and lack of mobs for different quests. So far in my limited experience this has been the main issue as you are constantly forced to fight with others over a limited number of mobs who spawn in a very small area. The basic rule seems to be attack on sight just to be safe. | ||
