WarBuddha 06-01-2008, 09:07 PM I keep hearing this and frankly it's starting to turn me away. I usually give MMO's atleast a month before I play them so they can fix the server problems and to hear whether they're worth getting. Apparently the game is completely broken and after level 40 and even more so after 50 it turns into a steaming pile of shit, thoughts?

Links?
Breyer 06-01-2008, 09:42 PM Some of the quests are broken, but the majority of them work
However, there are far fewer quests to do.
The quest experience doesn't scale up well enough, so you can't really level off of them any more 40 and 50+, lots and lots of grinding to do to get to 80 at the moment.
Bosses aren't really itemized (they're fixing this soon apparently).
Quite a few feats are bugged and do not work properly or at all.
All that being said it's not like the game just stops working at 50+, it still pretty much the same.
Calder 06-02-2008, 03:21 AM They don't have enough quests in the game to level to 80, so expect to grind a lot.
Though it's not that bad since you can group AoE grind and get just as much XP. Though you end up PVPing more than grinding since all the good spots are highly contested (which is a good thing) :)
absent 06-02-2008, 04:01 AM it's a huge overhyped, broken piece of shit
do not buy
-=TTC=-Serpreme 06-02-2008, 06:06 AM people who try to grind to much in this game clearly dont know why it was made.
TseTse 06-02-2008, 07:06 AM A lot of quests in one of the lvl 40 areas (noble district) are broken.
Otherwise, the main issues with 40+ are:
it gets harder to find quests which is frustrating for wow-type players used to being flooded with them without effort. there ARE quests. i'm level 53 and havent had to grind yet (although im doing it more)
the new abilities come slowly from like 35-55, also frustrating to wow players who are used to have 50 abilities and new shit every 1-2 levels
the game is basically still in late beta, but it's an mmo. that's how this goes.
money keeps coming VERY slowly until about lvl 50 where it clearly speeds up
There are points in this game where it stops paying to pick up most loot, and also where you may want to just grind out mobs for a bit. The XP you can get from killing mobs... mostly from the awesome "WANTED" quests... can beat regular questing.
And be sure to look for those wanted quests. Field of the Dead has some, and they rock because they basically made them around the ultimate grind mobs.
I didnt HAVE to grind, but i decided to do some... and got about a lvl at 51. This is good cash, too. That to me is the main incentive. Cannibal Caves are lvl 54-55. I hit them at 50...

TseTse 06-02-2008, 07:08 AM people who try to grind to much in this game clearly dont know why it was made.
It's good money... and when you can kill mobs 5-9 levels higher than you... occasionally it's efficient.
I dont recommend it as a general strategy, but there ARE times when you can get way way way more xp per hour from a hot spot than by questing. This is moreso because there are "holes" in the questing. If you are very efficient at questing, you WILL find yourself without quests for a half-level here and there.
And sometimes the WANTED quests arent your best choice. I've found this to be true in the 50s.
Homerpf 06-02-2008, 09:50 AM Well the guild options and raid shit isn't really up so that's a big part of the endgame. They've got the instances up in the high level areas but some of the bosses are bugged and the aggro range is all fucked up for double/triple elite mobs.
Once you hit Aztel's (low 70s) and Khesheta (high 70s-80) it pretty much is all about the AoE pullling. You can still do some quests but they will only get you a level or two from each area. I was apprenticing 2 guys last night in the east camps in Kheshetta and we were killing camps full of 7-10 every 30 seconds or so for 2k xp each guy.
GraphiX 06-02-2008, 01:51 PM i luv 2 grind
who wants 2 grind
lvl 48:
-quests slow down rapidly
-still 4x faster lvling than WoW
-it's not 'grinding' when quest xp is 14k, and each mob gives 1.1k solo.
if you are having problems grinding - stop grinding even con mobs.
at lvl 48: even con is 550, lvl 51's are: 1.1k.
I'm a class that solo's well so i do high lvl single pulls, other classes may choose to do even cons at multi pulls.
this shit doesnt even come CLOSE to being called 'grinding' at lvl 48 - not after playing wow.
TseTse 06-02-2008, 02:51 PM Also... again... they have "wanted" posters which give REPEATABLE quests for grinding, often several different places per zone... if that's what you really want to do.
You kill 20 mobs, go back to another instance (and get free ride back to town) and pick it up again. Repeat. Or you can just sit and grind.

At 50+ if you go towards the western mountain area near Crom's Throne or whatever there are three Venir camps that are awesome for grinding in a group. The respawn rate is fast enough that by the time you finish going through all three camps, the first camp has fully respawned. So you can keep going back and forth. The mobs are 55+ and the one camp has 60+ mobs. Avoid killing the boss with the bear as he takes too long to kill, but the other boss is pretty easy to take down and he gives good experience.
I went from 54 to 59 in that area in only a couple of hours. Fuck the caves. The only bad thing about this spot is it isn't a private instance so bring a good group if you are on a pvp server.
Also, I didn't have to grind at all until I hit 54 and most of the quests at that level dried up. It is that particular zone that is the problem and not necessarily an indication of the entire game's 60+ content. I heard the quests pick up again in force around 65+.
Also, quests still reward full experience for completion, regardless of level. So go back and do those gray quests. Some of them are an easy 10k+ experience.

Ya i just found that spot last night but had trouble at 54 with them. Gonna try again. I just hit 55 and am out of quests (i dont want to do tombs or noble city instances, not without guildies).
It's always worth exploring back corners for grind spots :D
As for going back to do quests for 10k xp, that's 10 fucking kills for me. I can kill mobs 9 level higher than me if i really want for 2k. I am 55 and aiming for like 1.2-1.5k mobs to grind for a while. Then i can head to a lvl 60 zone (i explored last night but i couldnt get quests and it was a bit too much time per kill)
Laundry 06-02-2008, 08:56 PM I got my guardian to level 52 a week ago and decided to stop playing. There was simply no content beyond level 50 or so.
Once I got to 50 I only had 2 or 3 quests and they only got me through around 25% of the level. I think it was around 350k experience per level, and mobs gave me ~1100xp per kill. Grinding out the level meant killing ~200 mobs and took probably 3.5 hours. Level 51 was even worse as I only got 2 new quests and one of them I couldn't even do.
I'm no stranger to grinding, but grinding in AoC felt totally pointless. I felt like if there was no level 50 content, there certainly wouldn't be any level 80 content. The repeatable quests were a complete joke (4k experience to run back to town in the time you could kill 10 mobs, and less money than you would get from 1 mob).
I saw some groups aoe grinding down mobs, which seemed like a good idea except I was a guardian so I didn't really have that option. It was also pretty lame that some classes were that powerful and could level 5x faster than me.
Meh, I guess my point is that the game is simply not finished, so I'm not going to play it anymore.
Edit in response to the original question: The game is seriously garbage past 50
TseTse 06-02-2008, 10:30 PM There IS level 50-55 content.
Sorry, but you arent looking hard if you cant find it. There is one zone and 2 instances. The void really happens at around 54-58 (esp if you skip those instances, which i have). You can start poking around the 60+ zone in the last 50s, easy. I was killing 60s at lvl 53 myself.
As said above, this picks up again in the 60s.
They clearly didnt flesh the 50s out well enough or properly guage the quest xp, although they have FIVE... F I V E repeatable quests in the 50s for those into just killing shit.
Likewise, obviously a lot of wow-style players want quests hand-fed to them without having to explore the zones for NPC. Even then, the leveling is way faster than other MMOs and folks still whine? I dont get it... :ugh:
Laundry 06-02-2008, 10:55 PM Wow, one whole level 50 zone? You're right that is a lot of content, especially compared to the 3 level 20 zones.
Then you say it gets worse 54-58? Earlier in this thread you said you're level 53, so there's no way you could know that, or if it gets any better at 60+.
Also, drop the bullshit about the repeatable quests. It's faster to grind xp than it is to do those quests. They're 100% useless.
Finally, it's not about having quests hand-fed or whatever. If the game has plenty of content or quests through level 50, there's no reason for the content to suddenly disappear.
It's pretty pathetic to ignore such obvious flaws.
Yawnfest 06-03-2008, 02:33 AM i cant stand quests. WoW has made everyone so spoiled with having a quest log full at all stages of the leveling process that all these newbie MMO gamers have no idea what a grind is. They don't even understand that often grinding is faster than questing. If there's no quests they wahh wahh and quit b/c they think the game is broken and unfinished. Grow a pair and suck it up.
Find a fucking group. Make friends. If you're playing this game solo and you think it sucks your opinion means absolutely jack shit. MMO's aren't meant to be played solo. Every single MMO is boring as shit solo. You're basically playing a shitty version of baldur's gate.
TseTse 06-03-2008, 05:40 AM Wow, one whole level 50 zone? You're right that is a lot of content, especially compared to the 3 level 20 zones.

Nobody is ignoring flaws. This game lacks (solo) 50-60 content. It's not finished, clearly.
But you were exaggerating and WRONG.
Likewise, if you were reading/understanding my point or paying attention to the actual content in-game, you'd realize the repeatable quests ARE FOR GRINDING. There are 5 repeatable quests of "kill 20" tasks in the 50s range.
As for knowing about the higher level stuff, im no longer 51. duh. lol
Likewise, as a ToS, i can kill shit 9 levels higher so i can explore shit ahead...
Flowen 06-03-2008, 12:42 PM just hit 80 last night, fun game
