HypnosisFX 05-30-2008, 10:56 AM Got this from TF2F Forums.
Old topic title: Divining the future through use of GCF scape
First off, all credit goes to ghl for finding this, please direct all praise to him.
Now, Steam keeps most of it's content in packages called .gcf. If you get a program such as GCFscape, you can open one up and poke around inside. the one that concerns us today is a file found in the Team_fortress_2_contant.g cf, in tf/resource/tf_english.txt. This text file contains almost all of the display text in the game, the map descriptions on the chalkboard, the words that pop up when you look at a player, ETC.
What matters to us is a block of the text a fair ways down in the document. This section lists information about total completed achievements somewhere in the game. The first part is as follows:
Quote:
"Achievement_Group_All" "All (%s1 of %s2)"
"Achievement_Group_0" "General (%s1 of %s2)"
"Achievement_Group_1400" "Medic Pack (%s1 of %s2)"
The "All" section is the combined total of the Medic achievements and the General achievements that are already released. In this, we can see that Valve has already inserted a fair amount of back-end for the coming update, as they said they would. But the most interesting result of this investigation is the final line of the block.
Quote:
"Achievement_Group_1600" "Pyro Pack (%s1 of %s2)"
Exclamatory remark! Could this mean that the Pyro unlockables are next in line?
SexxxGodSteve 05-30-2008, 03:50 PM i really don't like the whole achievement system.
Ratorasniki 06-02-2008, 03:37 AM I'm really curious to see if they give the pyro the old napalm rocket launcher. I mean replacing the medics weapons really didn't take a massive wealth of imaginaiton. The more direct offensive classes though, I think it will take a little thought to create new weapons that aren't useless without stepping on other classes toes.
Most classes don't actually have a secondary resource like the medics ubercharge, so I'm wondering what they'll end up doing with the fireaxe for example. Pyro's a tough one to do too, because there's really not a whole lot of wiggle room before he goes from underwhelming to overpowered.
I wonder how or if they're going to overhaul the pyro's shotgun. A flame-thrower with low-damage and long-burn time might be interesting.
DeaconBlues 06-02-2008, 06:56 AM How about along with the long-burn time it can jump from one enemy to another, so when the dude you are burning runs in a panic backwards he lights his teammates on fire.

as good as that sounds i doubt they would add that, then every team would need a fleet of medics to stop eveyone from burning. also it would be a Pyro storm when this upgrade comes out. I seen a few idea's posted but none were good. like
*Smoke gun to cause sentrys to not detect who ever is in the smoke screen
*Increase the flame thrower distance
Right now the only thing i wanna find out about is the Heavys upgrade
*Is the gun gonna have more power?
*are the Rounds are gonna be bigger?
Even the soldier class is gonna be interesting, the soldier is pretty much the best balanced of all class's i think.
John the Jammer 06-02-2008, 04:22 PM even small achievements change the gameplay dramatically
sigh
Blank 06-02-2008, 05:04 PM fuck achievements.
altaer 06-07-2008, 11:44 PM Pyro indeed looks to be the next in line. Steam released some information on what will be done to the pyro, and it seems pretty cool. The one confirmed new weapon is an axe that does about half damage per hit, but if an enemy is lit on fire and you swing the axe at him, it is a guaranteed critical strike, which is pretty cool and unique. Here are two articles on the next update.
