The starting city, Tortage, is about medium size. I think the thing most people coming from WoW will be complaining about is the starting city and surrounding area kind of rail road you through the area. In other words, there is a fairly established dirt road and you can't do much exploring past that.

The best place to level post 10, in my opinion, is in the ruins (I forget the name) that is near Tortage. You will be sent there at some point with a lot of quests. The area is huge, and you can easily level from 10 to 20ish. Once you get to 19 or 20 though, you should leave and finish your destiny quests.

After Tortage, the cities and areas are fucking gigantic.
