Rotator Cuff injuryBelisarius 05-12-2008, 07:53 PM how long do these usually take to heal? Do I need to see an ortho? Phantred 05-12-2008, 09:33 PM depends... could take a few days, could take a few weeks, could take a few months, could take surgery. Everyone always jumps in and says surgery. It is true a lot of shoulder injury's require surgery to heal, but you're gonna need a doctor's opinion on that. Scurvy With Fries 05-12-2008, 09:40 PM you'll see an ortho and he will tell you to get an mri. then he will either say surgery+pt, just pt, or neither. but the 1st is most likely. how do u know its rotator cuff? where does it hurt? does it pop out? BigWorm 05-13-2008, 04:42 PM mine took 3-4 weeks to heal completely pain was so bad I couldn't sleep at night Alpine 05-14-2008, 06:26 AM Mine still hurts from 2 years ago but just do some rotator cuff exercises before your work out and it should get better. Highlife 05-14-2008, 07:44 AM Describe the injury/pain a little more. What kind of pain is it? Where exactly is the pain? What makes it better/worse? Was it a sudden or gradual onset pain? What were you doing to cause it? "Rotator cuff" problems are vague as hell because the shoulder is very complex. Please be more specific about the details to make sure the problem is even a rotator cuff problem. Sensi 05-14-2008, 11:04 AM That was the most vague description ive ever heard of an injury. I had surgery done due to chronic dislocations and it was a little over a year for recovery. Explain what your problem is exactly Radon006 05-14-2008, 01:52 PM My left shoulder is a little jacked. Basically the front side muscle, and it prevents me from lifting heavy on barbell bench. I'm not sure what it is exactly but it will feel fine unless I'm barbell benching, or if I put my arm in the "chicken wing" position say trying to strach my upper back with my left hand. TeckMan 05-15-2008, 02:51 AM mine took 3-4 weeks to heal completely pain was so bad I couldn't sleep at night lol? no way an injury that bad heals that fast... Pipeofdeath 05-15-2008, 01:35 PM when i put alot of stress on my shoulder (like when doing shoulder press) it hurts like actual fuck, and sometimes gives way. im seeing the doctor pretty soon, but how long dyou reckon this will put me out for? it only really hurts when i do things that put stress on it (like shoulder press) but it can really hurt at points. im trying to take it easy before something gets damaged really bad, though. gRraWr 05-15-2008, 02:07 PM i have had similar injuries that i have yet to see a doctor for yet (the obvious solution) in the meantime bent over rows seem to stabilize the problem i feel during bench. Where specifically does it hurt? By 'gives away' do you mean dislocate? Use of it could definitely cause it to get worse, especially if it is a partial tear or it is partially dislocating. If its a very small tear it could theoretically get better on its on (if you dont use it) as it scars down. But you really should see a doctor so you dont screw it up more BigWorm 05-15-2008, 02:59 PM lol? no way an injury that bad heals that fast... rotator cuff wasn't torn, just severely sprained from going too heavy with a shoulder exercise had no mobility in my shoulder w/o sharp pains and it ached 24/7 for weeks TeckMan 05-16-2008, 01:50 AM when i put alot of stress on my shoulder (like when doing shoulder press) it hurts like actual fuck, and sometimes gives way. im seeing the doctor pretty soon, but how long dyou reckon this will put me out for? it only really hurts when i do things that put stress on it (like shoulder press) but it can really hurt at points. im trying to take it easy before something gets damaged really bad, though. ya you should stop completely until you see a doctor. then he will tell you to stop for at least another month but will prescribe little isolation moves to strengthen whatever you tore/fucked up. Highlife 05-16-2008, 09:33 AM A good majority of shoulder problems are a chronic result of poor training (obviously) and improper training of muscle groups. Your scapula is the the biggest boney structure of the shoulder and if that isn't stabilized properly it tends to shift into an unnatural position altering natural biomechanics. I would have someone check out the strength of your rhomboids as well as your lower trap. The rhomboids and lower trap are the major anchors of the scapula to the spine. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2d/Trapezius_Gray409.PNG When they are weak the scapula moves away from the spine and upwards, altering the natural range of motion of the shoulder girdle and decreasing the natural space your rotator cuff muscles and bursae have to work with. | ||
