What class to roll?

I'm going to give WoW another chance, and start a new character since it's been like 2 years since I played. I'm going to roll horde and wanted to play a melee based character. I'll want something that I can solo with until I get up in the levels and start doing dungeons.

I heard warriors were gimp, which sucks since I was leaning that way. I guess I could do another rogue, but they seem to be everywhere lately. Never tried a Paladin before. Played a hunter before, they were fun.

Thoughts?

_edit_ I don't have BC at this point.

Warriors are great for Arena.. Fairly easy to level w/bandages

Hunters are EZ-Mode leveling.. like a retarded/down syndromed/2 year old could level one..

Rogues are everywhere..

I'd go War...

Reading up on the WoW class forums.. of course I should know that people always bitch no matter how good things are, but most people I read defending the class could only say that they don't suck completely.

If they are viable, I'll go with that.

yes, people on every class forum on the wow forums say their class is terrible. the wow forums (official anyway) is the one place you don't want to go for class information. try elitist jerks or something.

first off seriously reconsider playing at all, the game basically went to shit post expansion.

leveling is boring as hell because you will probably be alone for the vast majority of it, and every other lowbie you see has a seventy or two body pvp guarding them (or just feeding them heals/xp)

if you want melee dont go hunter, its a ranged class despite the physical damage. they are fine for pve but totally gimped in arena against competent players of any other comparable team makeup

rogues and warriors are both still very strong classes in all aspects of the game, with warriors being slightly more gear dependent.

paladins, horde especially, are viable for ret with stellar gear, but be prepared to put in time as prot or holy to get to that level.

you can solo 1-70 as any class without any real difficulty btw, just spec it right and even a healer can grind like a champ

Try out an enh shaman if you don't mind bad itemization. That way, when you eventually get bored of melee you can mess around in either ele or resto which are both pretty cool.

Pretty much the only thing you can't solo as a warrior are group quests (most involving elites).

Pretty much what he said. I can solo an equal level elite if I get lucky, but if I dont get the crits and don't have the cooldowns then no.

Warriors die alot more on the way up but are great tanks, I dont know much about them but you may also want to look into rolling a druid.

Warriors are probably the most gear dependent class in the game while levelling. They're much easier as 2nd characters when you've got cash, in my opinion.

Warriors excel at any aspect of the game at level 70. Whoever told you warriors are gimp is incredibly wrong. I'd consider them to be in the top 3 strongest overall classes (PvE or PvP).

If you plan to PvP at 70, or arena at all, I'd personally roll a rogue.

I've played a warrior forever, and in gladiator range, the combos that a rogue can play just seem so much more fun, fast paced, and dynamic.

There's definitely room for creative play with a warrior... you can pull of some stupidly cool stuff, but I think a rogue in general will offer you more. Also, a rogue will be MUCH less gear dependent at 70. You'll feel like bashing your head into the wall as a warrior in blues at this point in the game.

warriors are fun but you'll be pigeonholed with spec

want to pve? you'll probably have to go prot (aka boring)

fury for levelling or pve dps if you can find a guild that doesn't mind

arms for pvp or maybe pve but you definitely need the gear

You could also go Feral Druid for easy levelling with very little gear dependency. Then when you hit 70 you can decide between being an overpowered pvp healer, a tank or a caster.

Warrior, slamming a recklessness, sweeping strike and whirlwind on a group of clothies gives me a boner.

What class isnt pigeon holed with spec?

At least a warrior can get into instances with any of 3 pve specs, most classes dont have nearly as much choice.

Everyone's pretty much spot-on.

- Warrior
- Shaman
- Druid
- Rogue
- Paladin

For me paladin was fun until 60. You grab all the warrior gear and spec Ret and have a blasty, but after that You have to go Holy or Prot and be a tank/healer if you want to get into dungeons. Prot AoE grinding was nail-tearingly boring for me, others disgree.

I usually had fun with warriors too, but like others said you'll notice your killing capability will go down in terms of speed if you don't keep up on gear. And you get pigeon-holed at endgame. And keeping up with gear can be annoying and costly (if you prefer to supplement what you get in dungeons with AH greens). Also it's easier for dungeons because if you learn how to tank you can do it effectively while being another spec in nearly all the normal 1 - 70 dungeons. Once you hit raid dungeons or heroics though it's another story.

Shaman and druid have a little more leeway due to flexibility. I played a shaman up to lvl 35 and I had fun, but I'd have to simply go by the 60+ shamans in terms of bad itemization (which sucks because I was looking at a shaman next). Druids are pretty EZ in Feral to level, but if you like to DPS there's a good chance you'll have to respec to Resto of Balance to go places in PvE and Arena.

Rogue is alright as well, but I found you get targeted a lot more leveling as a rogue. I think people assume it's some kind of "prize" if they can catch you unawares or something. The other problem with rogues is they are pidgeon-holed as well. If you want to raid, you're pretty much Combat Swords. If you want to do arena you'll have to be Hemo/SS. Not to mention rogues are usually not in high demand for dungeons simply because everyone and their mom has a rogue.

/Signed yes

If you are making a first character, and want to actually visit instances etc, you should roll either a combat rogue or BM hunter. That way you can always get in as a DPS or the elusive yet strangely mandatory 'CC' that so many pugs vie for. And also, they are pretty light on gear requirements. Hunter you can hit 70 in all gray gear and with a rogue, just get a nice MH (of which you have tonnes of free options) and rock out endlessly.

And don't listen to Feannag pretty much ever.

I've found leveling a druid incredibly slow up until level 30..

When I hit level 30 I had about 1.5 days played on my druid.. and it wasn't a matter of I didn't know what I was doing .. I knew what zones to hit when, I knew where to go to do the quests, etc etc..

The problem I came across was up until level 30 you have no place to do point dumps except into a bleed that does its dmg over 18 seconds.. After 30 you finally get a "evis" type of skill/spell (can't recall the name) then it speeds up..
