Fallen Empire: Legions the Spiritual Sucessor? Thoughts?Plasmatic 05-24-2008, 01:42 AM Goddamn it, I thought there was activity in these forums. Lemon 05-24-2008, 02:07 AM you don't need new shoes or wow gold? ViRGE 05-25-2008, 06:46 AM It used to be that betas were feature complete but known to be buggy. Then it was that betas were mostly feature complete as the developers were hammering out the final features in the background. Now it would seem betas are "it runs and doesn't crash in 10 seconds". I'm not sure what to say about the game. It needs a manual, it needs real art, it needs a tutorial, it needs features, it needs player sizes properly scaled to the terrain, it needs inventory stations that don't outfit the enemy team. It's so bare bones right now, I'm not sure how I am supposed to argue that it doesn't mostly-suck in its current state. I can't say it doesn't have promise, but I can say it needs a lot more time in the cooker until then. Star-Demon 05-25-2008, 07:56 AM Beta is the new alpha. Amadeus 05-25-2008, 08:00 AM Course it hs promise. Every starter project does. The funny thing is that going beta early doesn't benefit anyone. The players get a shitty game, the devs get no useful feedback, the game gets unnecessary updates to try to please everyone. The entire "come on people, we'll make a game together!!1" thing is a fallacy, and GG only uses it to keep IA semi-alive. NoFiX 05-25-2008, 10:07 AM They've already lost the majority of their beta player-base. InstantFailure. Star-Demon 05-25-2008, 08:54 PM If they want to make a game together with me, they have to show me the damned money and put my damn name on the credits. ViRGE 05-26-2008, 01:26 AM Course it hs promise. Every starter project does.Well this actually has practical promise, unlike most projects. GG hasn't really done anything "wrong" that probably won't be fixed, they just haven't done much of anything at all. It's like an undercooked Thanksgiving turkey, if you feed it to your guests now they'll all just end up sick, but if you put it back in the oven for a bit longer it will turn out fine. It's not like an overcooked turkey, where no matter what you do it's still going to be dry. The game just needs a heck of a lot more work done. I'm not sure what to make about the skiing system though. I liked the "you maintain your fast speed on a straightaway" approach of T:V carving, and this system maintains that. On the other hand I'm having to use a ridiculous number of buttons at once, 2 for a diagonal direction, another 1 to turn the jets on, one to fly up, one to shoot with, etc. It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure 2-button skiing is going to work out, it's kind of bordering on the "hard like fishing with a spear" (i.e. it's just plain hard) situation rather than "hard like golf" (i.e. it's only hard until you practice) situation. Amadeus 05-26-2008, 05:47 AM That's the entire point of a starter project, to provide a simple framework that more or less works and can be built upon. But saying that it has the potential to be a great game is about as informative as saying that a brick wall has the potential to become the Taj Mahal. | ||
