Fallen Empire: Legions the Spiritual Sucessor? Thoughts?

i'd imagine that any support for Legions would benefit the game and community.

I'm not the biggest fan of what I've seen in the released videos...but I'll definitely give it a whirl before passing final judgement.

Sfphinx, you've done a great job with TribalOutpost and T2Maps, I'm sure you'll do just as well with Legions. Apparently there is user created content, so I say go for it.

Well I have a problem, according to an individual on this site, that has an inside scoop, it might not work to have a website like this, I am still doing some research and trying to find out for sure. I will let you all know.

Legions is hobbled Tribes just focused on close combat and small scale travel. I don't know why they're making this when there's at least two other games, Legends and T:V, that can give people the same thing. :[

No that's saved for new Duke Nukem titles. Maybe Tribes is a close 2nd.

They can't make it exactly like Tribes or they'll get sued. I think they've got fairly close though, as close as you can get. It does seem a little more T:V like, it needs more stuff, and I'm sure it'll get more over time, it's still a work in progress.

Wonder if ZOD will mod it? That looks like what'll need to happen to make it like most of this community wants.

People need to realize that Tribes 2 was already a great game, with all the assets required to make Tribes-style gameplay.

Legions is essentially a starter-project. It has first base covered, and that's about it. There are no professional assets. The weapon models and textures remind me of programmer art, possibly even placeholders left over from T:V's development cycle. The game itself lacks practically everything required for a Tribes-style game: turrets, inventory, classes, armor types, animations, vocalizations, etc.

On top of that, the interface ( IA or otherwise ) required for mods doesn't exist. The scripts are locked down. Tribes 2 / Torque experience doesn't amount for much unless you like wasting time dicking with variables.

Nothing against ZOD, but Legions isn't Tribes 2. You're not going to be making a Tribes-clone by dicking with a few variables.

I'll give it a whirl for sure and am having some fun with the beta.

While I love skiing, jetpacks and freedom of movement what kept me playing Tribes 2 for years was the diversity of plays, ie. wide array of deployables, base assets, differing armours, packs and weapons. The vehicles were also well implemented. You could play Tribes in many different ways.

If Legions lacks the depth and simply ends up as a freedom of movement shooting capping fest I doubt I will play it much.
