I have a download of the full res DivX version...but I'd think this'd be old hat for just about anyone on these forums anymore.

Someone should post this ( Legacy ) on the Legions forum. See how long it takes to be removed.

Funny to see this pop up again after so long, got a few emails after it went up on digg. I'm pleased to see that its done its job and far beyond my expectations.

Just goes to show good the game was for its time. I think it was the combination of many gameplay innovations all at once. These gave you a broad scope of things to learn and were a challenge upfront, before you really began to measure your skill against other players.

Any game can be made challenging by limiting the options or making controls unintuitive and unresponsive, but in tribes it was the reverse. There was immense freedom, yet it was still greater a challenge. For a long time it wasn't just about how accurate you were, but also how fresh your ideas were. The game had a rapid, yet enduring evolution.

All this, combined with a large bunch of other people, where you could form teams and make enemies on a grand scale, was just awesome. It had the community-building effect of an RPG, only, you didn't need to don stormtrooper armour and swear a jedi-oath to join the group. Maybe thats why TW is unique.

I think that its that sheer scope of creative potential thats missing from the more mainstream FPS's. It will always be fun to compete in contests of hand-eye coordination and still more fun with a team and some friends, but there are only so many variations of the 1-8 weapons in dark corridors and cloistered "outdoor" locations before playing stops being about the game and becomes purely about the competition at which point theres little for the new player to discover on his own.

You don't stay up at stupid hours exploring and messing around in the outer reaches of a quake or UT map with your friends, just for fun. Its claustraphobic. All that sky is out of reach, and things look different from up there.

A great game, tribes.. Maybe another of its calibre it will come again, who knows..

Not really, its been too long. I remember many of the unusual things though, that just don't tend to happen in other games.

Trying to get under the base in raindance and having ground wars and races far below the main battleground on monorail, the fun of establishing bases within the other teams bases on broadside and scarabrae way back when; getting lost on SH trying to find a new routes, watching someone scout jump-cap on RC the first time, team-practises that devolved into TKfests, and more..

One of my favourite is actually the last scene in legacy, with the mortars raining down. It is from a league match against the self proclaimed 'worst team in tribes' where on our team everyone decided to go HO from the beginning. We screwed around like that for three maps, having HPC wars and reversing roles. I think they enjoyed it as much as we did.

That sounds epic. I've watched Legacy probably 13 times now, because while I hardly play Tribes any more, it still makes me feel as though its a live and well :)

Adam Freeland - Big Wednesday
Crystal Method - Keep Hope Alive
Flutlicht - Icarus (The flight)
Overseer - Supermoves
Daft Punk - some crappy track that I don't remember

Too lazy to actually watch it again and tag each track to each video, but I think they're kind of in order . . .

Not helped by the fact that I mislabelled the songs in the credits. A mistake that has caused countless searches in vain, for which I ought apologise.

Indeed, I tried to locate the songs a while back using the credits, and quickly found they were mislabeled. All of the tracks are available on iTunes except for Supermoves, specifically the Animatrix remix that is used. The Animatrix soundtrack isn't available on iTunes, so I had to borrow my brother's copy :) I have completed the Legacy soundtrack, muahahahahaha!
