Computer Problem

Whenever I attempt to boot up my comp into winxp it my monitor goes straight to a black screen and the light continues to blink repeatedly. All of the monitor and power cables are secure. My video card is well seated and im not getting any unusual beeps.
I thought my monitor must've been shot so my friend let me use his and it will only start into DOS at the screen where it gives you an option of "booting into safe mode". And i'll choose boot into safe mode or start windows normally everytime it goes to a blue screen with a long message in white text then shuts off immediately...not giving me anytime to catch what it says; it happens so fast and restarts repeadtly after that.
The screws that hold the monitor cable in place are missing but the cable is securely connected to the video output.
Any help is appreciated
thanks

Jot down the blue screen error and google it, try to find the cause. Remove a stick of RAM or two and try that as well. May need to reformat and reinstall.

Sounds like maybe hardware?

Since you can't get into XP to fix the problem, you're going to have to use something else.
I suggest you boot into a Linux live cd and find a windows registry editor
Go to the reg entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System \CurrentControlSet\Contro l\CrashControl
And change the key AutoReboot from 1 to 0.
Save and boot into windows. Report back with your error.

I can't get into the windows screen. I cant even get past DOS.
OtakuMark, I don't have time to jot it down. The blue screen goes away in a split second and restarts

Dude, remove all of you RAM sticks but 1.
Try booting.
Remove that stick and place in another.
Try booting.
Repeat until you are either able to boot into Windows or have tried all sticks of RAM.
If you try all the sticks of RAM, and it doesn't fix it, try swapping in a different Harddrive. Try booting from that harddrive. Or just try booting from a LiveCD like I suggested before, instead of swapping in a new drive.
