EBay Inc. sued Craigslist on Tuesday, alleging the classified site unfairly tried to dilute the online auctioneer's stake in it.

EBay purchased a 28 percent stake in privately held Craigslist in 2004 from an unnamed former executive. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

But in January, eBay says, Craigslist's board, consisting of founder Craig Newmark and Chief Executive Jim Buckmaster, unilaterally acted to dilute eBay's economic interest in Craigslist by more than 10 percent.

ebay is a real piece of work. They won't allow google checkout because it's supposed not safe, go after other online auction sites because they want to be the only one. And now this?

If ebay tried to pull some shit on craigslist, I would try to dilute their shares too. Stop being a pushy whiney bitch ebay. Make your own product better and you will beat the competition.

Fucking sounds like EA Sports doesn't it? It's not enough to have the #1 product, they have to strong arm all the small guys out of existance for fear they might some day steal a 2% market share.

Ebay also runs kijiji (www.kijiji.com) which is a direct competitor to craigslist. Conflict of interest much?

eBay has made some serious changes lately, all of which make it less attractive to sellers. Right now on a typical sale you're looking at paying 15% of the item sale price in fees PLUS a fixed price on top of that. If you're selling something out of your attic that might not seem too bad, but it damn near kills any small business potential.

I really really hope a major competitor pops up. I've tried using overstock auctions but they get a fraction of the traffic.

Craigslist is far from being the little guy.
