I wonder if I could record 1080p from my camcorder straight to this drive? As of right now, I believe my only option is using 3 hard drives in a a RAID setup.

I'm unsure of the transfer/write requirements of a 1080P camcorder. Do you currently own a raptor? the 36, 74 or 150 gig flavor? If so I would test the write speed on one of those. It should be very close write speed wise to this new beast.

As for the raid. You only need 2 drives for a raid 0 array, which is pretty much the fastest setup with a 32k stripe. Just pop in 2x 36gb raptors. That will give you a cheap n fast 74 gig setup that should keep up with your write requirements. Then move the vids to a large storage drive for editing ect...

Darn. Sooo close. Oh well. I'm sure I could pick up two older models for a good price. However the 2.5 inch in 2.5 inch heat sink would be really good for a mobile setup.

if it's in a heatsink I wouldn't buy it for a laptop. You want shit that runs too cold in a laptop because there's such limited cooling ability.

No I am talking about for a custom case for mobile filming. Although that would be pretty cool to put in a laptop, if it didn't overheat everything.
