Terra 04-23-2008, 11:42 PM i dont get it
you could always pay someone for pots or herbs
with tailoring/ench you make some of the best raiding gear til t5, then enchanting for the ring enchats.
obviously tailoring may not be very useful after you get some big upgrades, but the chances of jumping into a t5+ guild WITHOUT the tailored gear is probably slim.
Well to me it makes sense to go tailoring/enchanting as a priest because Primal Mooncloth is really good (minus shitty stam) and can hold up until tier 5. Enchanting goes well along with tailoring and will benefit a player until you have the final rings.
However, if you are going to join an end-game raiding guild, I think it makes more sense to take alchemy for the redeemer's alchemist's stone due to the fact that primal mooncloth will be absolutely worthless to you at t6 level. Herbalism obviously goes along with alchemy and is one of the must for a hardcore raider. Of course if the player we're talking about has another toon for herbalism, maybe enchanting + alchemy combo would work well.
Just my 2c. You don't have to agree.
Blotter 04-24-2008, 12:15 AM ah, forgot about the stone, duh. ive even been thinking about going alchemist on my priest, completely spaced it. thinking tailor/alch. id drop tailor for ench when i didnt need the tailored stuff anymore.
The Pumpkin King 04-24-2008, 12:32 AM I was thinking tailor alch too... But you have to shell out lots of cash for the herbs. What a drag.
I hate picking herbs anyway...
I've done enchanting on like every character I've had so I'm not going to do it again I don't think...
For a first character on a server though, I think you gotta go herb for a while
to level up alch and make some cash.
I don't really need tailoring until later on in the game anyway. I can just power level it for the purple cloth later...
The Pumpkin King 04-24-2008, 12:34 AM One more question though...
My ping sucks ass... Is the priest class rather ping dependent?
I'm going to be pinging at least 400 probably, if not more.
Smaqaho 04-24-2008, 12:47 AM If holy, alchemy is amazing. The new trinkets are reason enough to drop a profession and skill it up. That trinket is about as good as one dropping off Illidan. If min-maxing go alchemy/enchanting for ring enchants and the trinket.
Best bet is to level an alt. I made a warrior a couple years ago and finally dusted it off and leveled it to 70 this January with mining/skinning as professions and it's amazing how easy it is to get rich farming while questing or doing dailies. In the end I started just vendoring all the skinning shit I didn't intend to use (cleft/cobra shit) for the most part and last weekend dropped skinning for engineering to craft the goggles and have a mote extractor handy while doing dailies.
Level an alt with herbalism and any secondary skill and use it to feed your main materials. Worst case you can use the alt to farm other items to sell on the AH or in town then use your profits to buy the shit you need for your main. I sell ore to buy herbs then find an alchemist to make my pots. My main is tailoring/enchanting (shadowpriest) and there's not much money to be made from either profression unless I jack off in Orgrimmar all day selling enchants for tips.
400ping will suck on almost any character, priest is no exception. I did play with 175-300ping on Tichondrius for 3 years though and didn't have too many problems.

With Quartz and some brains (and I recall you being a pretty smart guy at uvas), I think you'll be fine.
Familiar 04-25-2008, 05:27 PM the alchemy trinket rapes the shit out of the illidan one if you pot...not even close
oh and if you are a dps class of any kind and not a leather worker then you are an idiot
TheGhost 04-25-2008, 05:45 PM I'm dropping tailoring on my priest once I can get some new shoulders and a belt, the friggin belt in ZA isn't dropping for shit, and hopefully some T5 shoulders drop from VR.

if youre doing ssc, then you dont really need to if you get the opportunity to get the robe drop from vashj. thats what im doing, and then waiting for t6
Blotter 04-25-2008, 06:40 PM apparently we arent doing vashj anymore after our 1 kill
so thats out

that sucks, that robe is the best thing for a shadow til t6 :\

Well, wouldn't that apply to a good portion of T5 drops?
I'm not reading 4 pages but I wanted to address this:
I would want to top the healing charts in raids and pvp.
If topping e-peen meters is your biggest concern you'll either want to be a CoH priest or just go with a paladin as they are the best heal snipers.
However
a priest will almost never top the healing charts as a good chunk of our healing (prayer of mending) doesn't count on our meter (or our aggro).
DeadlyRabbit 04-26-2008, 12:58 PM Ya prayer of mending rocks, but like you said don't worry about topping the healing meters, priests have more tools to save the entire raid from wipes which doesn't show up on meters.
The Pumpkin King 04-26-2008, 01:12 PM Well, I really wanted to roll a priest to heal, but my ping is so bad.
I went ahead and rolled a warrior because all the abilities are mostly instants.
The cast bar was giving me a lot of trouble. As a warrior I don't feel the effects of lag quite so much.
If you have bad ping, melee is really the last thing you want to be playing. At least in pvp.

What Out of Range are Out of Range you Out of Range talking Out of Range about?
P.S.: Out of Range

Oh crap. Is that for real? That sucks. I definitely had
pvp in mind, but I think I'm going to hurt in pvp no matter
what class I play with this ping.
At least playing meelee PVE isn't frustrating as hell. All my
skills and attacks are instants.
I can't cast spells for beans with this ping. The cast bar takes
like 2 minutes before I can even see that I'm casting. It makes
it almost impossible to chain cast.
So what the hell should I do? Roll a hunter?
I think you have a good point though. I've noticed that out of
range crap when I'm chasing monsters that are running away
from me.
