triple 04-20-2008, 06:45 AM so I installed my e8400 today
its in a lian-li full tower with a tuniq tower on top of it, so pretty much best air-cooling setup you can buy
and get this - 42C-44C idle. 53C load.
What the fuck? I got low 30s on my overclocked e6750, this is 45nm, its supposed to be cooler than that, isn't it?
its gotta be a sensor issue, right? theres no way this can be right.

iNVAR 04-20-2008, 12:48 PM flash your bios, i hear some motherboards have problems with the new 45nm procs and not reading the temps properly.
also, stop using shitty software and get core temp. i would've thought you'd know by now after all the threads you've posted in where i've mentioned this.

triple 04-20-2008, 08:05 PM who said I was using shitty software? That IS using coretemp, hwmonitor, and everest. I downloaded some software called realtemp from xtremesystems that puts me at around 32 idle, which is the only one that doesn't report something clearly wrong.

I also got a new mobo, the x38 maximus formula, which has a nb that runs 55C :shrug:
returned the first MF because of a separate issue, same nb temp on the 2nd, so i figure thats normal

and the nb temp is definitely not normal, what im hearing is 47C and over is "you're fucked" territory
so I tore off the nb/sb heatsinks, took off the shitty thermal pad or whatever, which btw made almost zero contact with the spreaders - and applied some of my own stuff. Guess what? Still at 50+ idle. Maybe the heatsink just plain sucks. So does microcenter let you return shit twice?

well it's at least reading temps. i think they're about 10 degrees higher than they actually are though.

temps barely rise at all from 3ghz. this chip is ridiculous.

the motherboard got returned and the e8400 is in the mail to newegg, guess I just had bad luck
right now im trying to decide on a new board, If someone can give me a suggestion.. I hear x38-48s are a disappointment, since you can just get essentially the same overclocks with a good p35, but id be willing to sell my ati cards if the 790i is any better.
