hay

i go to the gym daily, rotating between shoulders/back, biceps/triceps, and chest along with running a couple miles a day. i have gained 20 pounds (from 155 to 175) which was needed since im 6'4".

i dont really know my bench limits since i rarely go with friends. ive done 185 5x once, and can do 135 3x10, but im afraid shitless that im going to kill myself/drop the bar/look like a fucking moron. i feel comfortable doing decline bench 135 2x10, but thats it.

any suggestions besides get a friend?

bench in a cage

that's what I always do when my friends aren't around. No ssense in trusting some random dood who probably can't evne deadlift the weight ot save you.

sounds liek you are goign to the gym and working out chest way too much tho

oh and over what time did you put on this 20 lbs of "lean mass"

ask someone for a spot.. should be no problem, especially if there is a trainer there.

why don't you do legs?

if you dont have a spotter do dumbbells.

I didn't think they made dumbbells that heavy, although you never need as much

um, most gyms have dumbells up to at least 90 lbs... if he's doing barbell w/ 135... he's not going to be needing that much..

with dumbbells i would be trying 60's if you are repping 135.

i love doing dumbells anyway. i just switched to doing them instead of BB bench.. at least for a while.

meh, ive dropped the bar on my chest before, you wont die, and nobody really cares, sure it can be embarassing but fuck it, you know? ask for a spot if you feel like it would help, im sure most people have suggested this already.

what is your objection to benching in a cage thread starter?

just do smith bench, should take care of it

I believe smith bench to be inferior to nearly any free weight chest exercise I can imagine.

I would try dumbbells, but I use a cage for flat if I am alone, it's a very good option. (don't do flat right now though)

Dumbells. Most likely your gym has dumbells up to 100 lbs. I rarely do flat bench because I usually go to the gym alone.
