anomaly 04-18-2008, 10:10 PM hay
i go to the gym daily, rotating between shoulders/back, biceps/triceps, and chest along with running a couple miles a day. i have gained 20 pounds (from 155 to 175) which was needed since im 6'4".
i dont really know my bench limits since i rarely go with friends. ive done 185 5x once, and can do 135 3x10, but im afraid shitless that im going to kill myself/drop the bar/look like a fucking moron. i feel comfortable doing decline bench 135 2x10, but thats it.
any suggestions besides get a friend?
Darkstrand 04-18-2008, 10:15 PM bench in a cage
that's what I always do when my friends aren't around. No ssense in trusting some random dood who probably can't evne deadlift the weight ot save you.
sounds liek you are goign to the gym and working out chest way too much tho
oh and over what time did you put on this 20 lbs of "lean mass"

wow. I'd recommend against putting on another 20lbs of fat this month
SkivviS 04-19-2008, 09:59 AM if you dont have a spotter do dumbbells.
Fartypants 04-19-2008, 10:15 AM ask someone for a spot??
Sensi 04-19-2008, 01:30 PM ask someone for a spot??
honestly, its not like someone will be like fuck you im not giving you a spot.. just ask its simple as that.
timecode 04-19-2008, 04:22 PM ask someone for a spot.. should be no problem, especially if there is a trainer there.
why don't you do legs?
rattle 04-19-2008, 04:26 PM if you dont have a spotter do dumbbells.
I didn't think they made dumbbells that heavy, although you never need as much
timecode 04-19-2008, 04:37 PM um, most gyms have dumbells up to at least 90 lbs... if he's doing barbell w/ 135... he's not going to be needing that much..
Sensi 04-19-2008, 06:31 PM with dumbbells i would be trying 60's if you are repping 135.
timecode 04-19-2008, 08:24 PM i love doing dumbells anyway. i just switched to doing them instead of BB bench.. at least for a while.
Gizmo 04-20-2008, 11:17 AM meh, ive dropped the bar on my chest before, you wont die, and nobody really cares, sure it can be embarassing but fuck it, you know? ask for a spot if you feel like it would help, im sure most people have suggested this already.
Darkstrand 04-20-2008, 11:21 AM what is your objection to benching in a cage thread starter?
hananafafriski 04-20-2008, 06:43 PM just do smith bench, should take care of it
I believe smith bench to be inferior to nearly any free weight chest exercise I can imagine.
I would try dumbbells, but I use a cage for flat if I am alone, it's a very good option. (don't do flat right now though)
Fonzie 04-21-2008, 03:05 PM Dumbells. Most likely your gym has dumbells up to 100 lbs. I rarely do flat bench because I usually go to the gym alone.
