Ever find that when you pick up a guitar that isn't yours, you feel inspired to play it differently than you would your own? I notice myself playing outside my normal boundaries if it's a guitar that hasn't been played before/feels differently/is used/was owned by a jew/whatever. The majority of the time, I don't find this with new instruments, only used ones. It's like they have a soul or something...

:lolwut:seriously though, what's up

I think its because they feel different than the ones you're used to. I play differently on my own guitars.

Not really. My own personal muse transcends gear now. I was into gear for a long, long, time - long enough to have basically purchased an entire music store - but those days are past.

I recently got my bass gear together, and that's cool, but I am not inspired by gear the way I used to be. I just play. The music's the important thing. That was revealed to me when I had a sudden flash of common sense back in 2000, and bought a new acoustic guitar. I've written so much on that thing it's ridiculous.

The magical thing about an acoustic is that it strips away all the choices, and you're left with music. So screw the amps, cabs, pedals, and production choices - and write a good song.

I find this especially true with acoustics...especially old ones, doesn't even matter how it plays or how it's set up.

Why can't you be like this all the time? :(

skul I am with you man on the idea of playing acoustic

I haven't had my electric for over a month and I have learned a lot more/differently from acoustic. I can't wait to get it back tho and tear it up

This thread is edgy.

:D

Musical instruments have souls. They suck your skills out of you to build up their own XP.

Hot Tip: DO NOT play an instrument that has just been played by an absolute noob. It will have a massive hunger for skill and will suck you dry in minutes.

And no "suck you dry" does not imply a happy time.

PS: I like playing other peoples' stuff - because it feels different and allows you to pull different sounds. It also inspires me to spend all of my money on guitars that I don't need, but absolutely must have.
