Before you say it yes I know I'm not going to get audio through the hdmi cable. I have a 1/8" stereo to rca stereo cable. I plug that into the speaker port on the onboard sound card and into the rca stereo in next to the hdmi.

My old card was a 6600gt and this worked perfectly. I just bought a 8800gt and now it doesn't work. It's as if the tv is refusing to play the audio. If I use the included component adaptor then everything works fine.

wtf is going on?

I just read something in 9600 GT review about those cards (So most likely 8800 GT too) needing external controller for it to work.. unlike old GF's and current Radeons. Let me dig a bit

edit:

Lacking an audio controller, the GeForce 9600 GT needs to be connected to an external controller via this cable, meaning that it loses the motherboard/sound card's S/PDIF connector and system sounds (if you want to distinguish your Home Cinema/TV installation from your PC speakers).

Not sure if that's related, I just woke up and English ain't my native language so maybe I misunderstood.
